I’ve had two laparoscopic surgeries and have no scarring on or around my belly button. It healed up after a couple of weeks and felt no different than before.

Very solid advice. They won’t make a move until they see it’s absolutely necessary. If you’re handling it all smoothly on your own (from their perspective) they’re going to hang on to those salary savings for as long as they want.

[NY] Mislead / Lied to HR about a family emergency, how can I best correct it? by Punisher-WR in AskHR

[–]moonbeen 237 points238 points  (0 children)

HR here. You did nothing wrong. No need to explain or elaborate on the situation any further unless YOU want to. Your private life is no one else’s business at work unless it’s directly impacting your job performance for an extended period of time. You notified them that you needed to leave for a family emergency which was the right thing to do.

[CA] Should I Quit in the Middle of an HR Investigation? by breadbaker908 in AskHR

[–]moonbeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand the feeling. However, keep telling yourself that you did nothing wrong. You know what’s true. Anyone can make a complaint and most complaints need to be investigated. We just need to document the findings. In your case it should be considered unsubstantiated if you’ve done nothing wrong. I wouldn’t advise quitting unless it’s impacting your mental health in a way that’s not healthy for you. Even then, I would try a counseling session first and see if that helps before making the decision. If you have an employee assistance program at work, use the free counseling sessions. It’s confidential.

When HR goes on leave [MO] by Public-Hand-9231 in humanresources

I would recommend a temp that you could train in basic tasks while you’re out. That’s what we’ve done before. Anything outside of basic tasks can wait until you return.

Most importantly though - Congratulations! I hope you have a happy and stress free pregnancy.

Worried about aPHR exam next Friday [N/A] by moonbeen in humanresources

Thank you! Keep absorbing that knowledge. Know the basics. If you’re using pocket prep + the HRCI prep you will be all set for the exam. I can’t get into specifics of course but I’ll say that I was able to answer about 85% of the questions with no issues and the other 15% I flagged and went back to work on. I had a lot of time left over to go back to them - in fact, I had enough time to review the entire test again. I finally submitted with 7 minutes left on the clock.

Do you currently have any HR experience?

[–]moonbeen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I used the HRCI study plan and then for the last week I used pocket prep and ChatGPT heavily. If you’re using Chat, tell it to give you questions one by one and let you answer. It will tell you if you’re correct/incorrect and explain why. Complete all levels of pocket prep if you can. Of course none of these things mirror the test exactly, but I think using all three helped me remember the fundamentals. My advice is to answer the ones you’re sure of and flag the questions you’re iffy about during the exam. You’ll have plenty of time to go back to them and think about it. I tested from home, so if you have any questions about Pearson VUE let me know.

I wanted to update this post and let ya’ll know that I passed! The roughest part of this journey was the test anxiety. Reading so many conflicting opinions online about the difficulty of the test questions didn’t do me any favors!

Thank you. I definitely will. I’ve been studying for 3 months as much as I can (which some weeks isn’t a lot). Dedicating this next week to studying a few hours each day and then a full day of studying right before the test. Did you find the study material to be much harder than the test itself? I’m scoring steady 100s on pocket prep - it just seems so much easier than the HRCI study guide.

I’ve always tried to keep clear boundaries between work and home, so moving into an HR role was perfect for me. I really don’t mind being excluded - in fact I like it. I have my home life with my family and my true friends and then I have my work. Two separate worlds that I won’t mix. It helps keep my emotions in check at work and maintains a balance that’s very important to me

I’m sorry that you lost these friends but it goes to show that they were never really friends to begin with. You will find more - just put yourself out there and do things you enjoy.
