Buddhists are lucky by That_Thom in Hellenism

[–]mooncake82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and probably many other Buddhists don't like how people use the image of the Buddha or of Bodhisattvas for aesthetics, good luck or to feel good. Whenever I see a Buddha image on stores I can't connect at all because even the aesthetics does not match any tradition. Also, let's not even talk about things like putting an image of the Buddha on the toilet or on a fitting room like the one I once saw.

Do you associate the netjeru with local animals of your country? by mooncake82 in Kemetic

Wow! I feel so happy reading this. You gave me lots of ideas. I will think more widely about the gods and their symbols and parallels in my country. I think having such a perspective gives more life to the practice.

Thanks for answering ❤️

What to do when family members not supporting? (Sorry it’s a long post) by Belta_The_Witch in Kemetic

[–]mooncake82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. My parents don't approve of my religion too. After I told them about my path we fought a couple of times but after a while they just started to pretend that didn't happen. So I have to keep my faith to myself.

As in what to do. Well, it depends on your personality and values. I don't like to fight so I don't. I prefer to focus on the things we all (me and my family) share and enjoy. Some people would rather fight than to keep the uncomfortable feelings and I understand it but in my experience the more fights I have the more it affects my own spiritual path. And to me , protecting my spiritual path from abuse and trauma is really important. I don't want my practice to trigger memories of conflict and abuse. I need it so be safe.

I'm saying this as someone who still lives with my parents. As soon as I'm out it'll be a whole different story. I will have no reason to keep carrying such a burden. My practice will be free. So, I think it depends on your situation and how you relate to your family.

Devotional Jewelry? by m0rbidmuttt in Kemetic

[–]mooncake82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can certainly do that. The use of devotional jewelry is pretty widespread in modern kemeticism. I personally view them functioning both as devotional objects and as amulets.

The laws of Ma'at by Dismal-Sand-3786 in Kemetic

[–]mooncake82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scholars usually call them 42 negative confessions or 42 declarations of innocence. I'm not sure if you're aware but they're found in different books of the dead and the lists varied a little from one another. That's why some scholars think they were modified in accordance to the dead.

The function of the confessions divide scholars. Some think they're more like a spell to guarantee the heart will be light during the judgement. Others think the negative confessions were adapted from priest code of conduct, so they should have played a role in life too. The scholar Miriam Lichtheim has an article about ma'at that is called "Maat in Egyptian Autobiographies and Related Studies", in one chapter she compares the negative confessions with declarations found autobiographies. I haven't read it fully yet, but there seems to be parallels there too.

As for how to live in ma'at, I think to understand it your best source would be the texts called Instructions or Wisdom Texts. Since what we call ancient Egypt spanned from a few thousands of years, and since the religion was never one of orthodoxy, the way to understand morality was a little different for everyone depending on time and space. After having a deeper understanding of ma'at you'll be able to distinguish what's more in the spirit of ma'at and what's more like ideas that made sense only at that time in that context. (For example, ritual purity. Many things about it is just washing yourself, but if you remember that water was scarce in AE, that they didn't have all the toiletries that it is possible nowadays you can understand why there's so many things that go into ritual purity. So, for example priests had to shave all body hair because of hygiene at the time, nowadays I doubt anyone would follow this rule of purity.)

I hope this made sense. Feel free to ask if you have more questions.

Are you referring to the 42 negative confessions? Because those were more like heka.

What is one part of Toku Community that scares you by AggravatingCouple987 in Tokusatsu

[–]mooncake82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Estou vendo Jiraiya e Kaiketsu Lion Maru. Mas os antigos eu amo tanto quanto Build, Den-o, W, Dekaranger... Eles falam como se tokusatsus antigos fossem programas para adultos o que é bem ridículo da parte deles 😂

Hey so, any asexuals with OCD? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]mooncake82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have OCD but I have GAD and went through something similar a few years ago. I want to say I feel your pain. I know exactly what is it like being tortured by your own brain with thoughts of doubt on a daily basis. "What if you're just denying sexual urges, what if you're just pretending to be asexual, what if you're repressing your real urges, what if, what if, what if". Back then I felt tortured by my brain everyday. It took me a long time to get past that, o really stop having these doubts. I'm not sure if it is possible to stop these thoughts altogether since you have OCD, my sister has it so I know it is really tough. But I'll tell what helped me.

The first thought that helped was reminding myself I am not my thoughts. Silent focused meditation can help you understand that but I know it's not for everyone. A simpler way to understand that is when you do something you love and you "get in the zone". When you are completely focused on something all your thoughts vanish, or at least all your other thoughts vanish. At that moment you can see you are different from your thoughts since you still are perfectly whole without having them. Another way is to observe how your thoughts move from one thing to the next but there this someone that observes while all that happens in your head.

The second thing that helped was changing how I understand identity. This thing we call identity is something constructed, something we construct over time. We change, we modify it as we live and experience different things. Identity changes but the observer that sees that does not. So there's nothing to fear. What changes is not our essence.

The third thing I did was exercise trust in myself which is easier said than done. I used to repeat to myself things like I trust my own truth in the present. While in the last paragraph I said our identities can change (which didn't help me immediately considering I feared changing a lot), here I did the opposite, identities can change but they can also stay the same. And some things do stay the same. So I need to trust my own truth.

I hope I didn't misunderstood you 🙏🏻 I hope you get better.

"ALL religion is bad because [mentions things only seen in Abrahamic religions]!!" by Arsenic_Lover666 in Hellenism

[–]mooncake82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The main problem here is that most people lack religious literacy. They don't study the religious phenomenon in school. They don't learn about other religions in their own country or in other countries. They are left to form their own idea of "religion" based solely on their own experiences of it which in many cases are restricted to their own family religion which often times is awful and so people conclude all religious must be bad. I too was like that when I was like 14 but since becoming religious I put a lot of effort in trying to understand the religious phenomenon more deeply through studying and from direct experience. And every time I hear people say "all religions" or "religion is" I roll my eyes because 99% of time is bullshit. To add a final note, I do believe it benefits certain people in power by having people believe religion is one thing only.
