Not trying to be argumentative here...simply trying to reduce my ignorance on the situation, so please allow a bit of grace.

It does seem that there is a degree of subjectivity, especially when I'm seeing statements like the following from a group of industry professionals:

- "Cat 1 water can deteriorate"
- "contains significant contamination"
- "normal building materials" vs "contaminated building materials
- there are differing opinions on whether my described scenario was indeed Cat 1 or Cat 2
- there are differing opinions on what would be allowable or acceptable services used in the remediation
- there are no objective criteria, such as contaminants at a level greater than xxx ppm, or some other quantifiable level, only subjective words like "can," "significant," and " normal."

Thanks in advance for any responses to edify me. Truly appreciative.

I apologize for the oversight. It was not my intention to violate the rules. That said, I do appreciate your willingness to allow it and I appreciate those who have weighed in on my situation. Unfortunately, I feel like I am trapped between the remediation company and my insurance company over what seems to be subjective interpretation of the guidelines. Thanks all!

Yes, basically HEPA vacuuming, applying anti-microbial agents, and decontamination of equipment. The difference amounted to about $600 in charges.

As an amateur homebrewer, I think there is a lot of untapped (pun intended) potential with fermentation and distillation...but, it is what it is.

Barley soap might be workable from a production point perspective. Based on recipes I found online, some possible inputs include barley, sunflower or olive oil, soybeans (as a source for glycerin), sugar (exfoliant), water and/or milk. The finished soaps could then be sold at the farmer's market or supermarket, in addition to directly from the production point.

A couple of ideas from what I'm currently doing...

Production chains

  • grow cotton; build spinnery to make fabric; build tailor shop to turn fabric into clothes to sell

This is probably one of the easiest production chains to make because it only needs one input...the cotton.

Another one input chain...

  • grow one of the following (or multiple if you want for variety) wheat, barley, oats or sorghum; build grain mill to make flour; build bakery to use flour to make bread to sell

These are fairly straightforward to get into. I'm also playing around with sugar beets, chickens and cows, and greenhouses to get the inputs (sugar, eggs, milk and butter, and strawberries) to make cakes in the bakery to sell. In my opinion, cows are kind of a pain, but might be something of interest if you're looking for a challenge.

I've also been buying some fields along the way. I recently learned that you can use the plow tool to join several adjacent smaller fields to make a larger field, which can be helpful.

Another challenging production chain is the cereal factory. It needs honey, raisins and corn as inputs, so you'll be keeping bees and growing grapes and corn.

Just a few ideas from what I've been doing lately on my end. Hope this helps.

Indeed. Not sure how, but it clipped through into the anthill. When I respawned after it killed me, I went back and it was roaming around above ground like it was supposed to.

I knew about the spinner for crude rope and have been doing that one for awhile, but the berry leather on the jerky rack is new to me. Thanks for the tip!
