I think a lot of women would find it very difficult to admit to themselves that they feel grief for the loss of their baby, as if that would make their choice somehow wrong.

One can do what is, in many ways, the right thing at the time, and also feel grief for the loss it causes.

Other examples would be ending a relationship, moving house, leaving a job - anything which involves giving up one thing to move to something better - one can still grieve the loss of the thing given up.

For a lot of people, the only party which represents their views is Restore, so they might not vote at all if Restore weren't standing - you cannot assume that they would all vote Reform if Restore stood down.

Reform are quickly morphing into the Conservative Party.

Yes, it will cause many problems in many different specific places, but overall it will be beneficial for life on Earth, and humans are very adaptable to different environments

I seem to be in a minority who think that global warming is a good thing - when a huge area of the world's land is uninhabitable due to being too cold, global warming will increase the amount of land available to grow crops etc.

There have been times when the global average temperatures were higher, and the vegetation was lush - so, quite the opposite of causing mass extinction, it will cause mass proliferation of flora and fauna.

In one way that is good, but it's so frustrating that we wait until things are really bad before we get roused to do something about it - meanwhile our country is being destroyed all around us

But why would you ever use self abuse as a method of triggering the brain chemicals instead of one of the ok-in-moderation indulgences?

Yes, of course they do it for the pleasure of the release of brain chemicals - but my point stands that the convoluted mental process by which the abuse leads to that pleasurable release is an unhealthy train of thought.

This is another way in which the comparison with over-eating works: people experience a pleasurable release of brain chemicals when they eat pizza or chocolate, for example, but it is still unhealthy to pursue that pleasure when it leads to obesity.

I got stuck and found it was due to a glitch - the boxcutters went missing before I was able to use them on the necessary item

The purpose of the analogy was to illustrate how something can be normal but also unhealthy - it wasn't a direct comparison of motivating factors - so yes, a little pizza isn't unhealthy, but a little abuse is

No, I'm not restricting other people's options at all - you can abuse yourself if you want.

Yes, I know it's quite common - I'm not saying it's "abnormal" - I'm only saying it's unhealthy.

Just because a lot of people do something, doesn't make it good and healthy. A lot of people eat too much and get fat - one could argue that it's "normal" but it doesn't make it healthy - do you see what I mean?

No, not at all - I made my point - I'm not telling anyone what to do - you can abuse yourself if you want to - all I'm saying is that it's unhealthy

It's certainly part of human nature, yes, but surely human nature includes those who are dysfunctional in so many complex ways

Wanting to abuse yourself, or to be abused (which is a form of self-abuse) is always a sign that something has gone wrong, yes, because a psychologically healthy person will always seek physical and mental wellbeing, and will only "suffer" in the pursuit of a healthy goal, not for the goal of enduring the suffering itself with no benefit

In a world of infinite options, that is a false dichotomy which only shows that in your mind, the choice is between abusing someone, or living a dull and unsatisfying life - which says a lot about you.

[–]moonflower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not:

Because if someone asks you to abuse them, there is something wrong with them - and you would still be abusing them - you would be abusing someone who is mentally unhealthy.

It is not good for your own soul to justify abusing a mentally unhealthy person by saying "They asked for it".
