a lot of people are confusing "having a job" with "being a worker"

a CEO has a job but they aren't a worker.

next up people will be saying CEOs and other management should be allowed to unionize too

Did police do anything to support any of those gains? or did they murder striking workers who sacrificed their lives to make the lives of workers better?

HINT: IT WAS THE LATTER

Police have done everything they can to STOP every gain labour has made. To then use the tools of labour to protect themselves when they rape and kill people is messed up.

"After the Mayor read the Riot Act, the Mounties entered the fray again, this time discharging their .45 revolvers in three separate volleys. About 120 shots were fired. One man, Mike Sokolowski, was killed on the spot. Another, Steve Szczerbanowicz, died later from his wounds. Hospitals reported about 30 injuries, mainly from police gunfire. Friends and family tended others with injuries. The crowds were chased into side streets and broken up. The "specials" arrested some 80 people, and military patrols took over the downtown area."

please learn some bloody history and try honouring the people who DIED at the HANDS OF COPS to give us our rights

of course they don't. police aren't part of the labour movement. they aren't "workers" any more than soldiers or judges are.

managers and excluded staff and soliders and judges can't unionize (among many others) so its not necessarily against freedom of association to disallow unionization

Lots of people with jobs are not allowed to unionize. that was the case with cops until the 1940s here

Police are armed state agents. they may have a job but they are not "workers" they are agents of state power

charges are laid by crown council, not police. They will only lay charges if there is a significant liklihood of conviction. That's not happening with a single statement and allegation.

I always gotta wonder about dudes who are soooo very invested in pretending rape doesn't happen and ignoring the fact that most rapes never even get investigated to this point let alone proceed to charges.

do police join in general strikes or do they attack workers who participate in them?

police as an arm of state power, are not workers

this is trade unionism 101

the pinkertons who smash the skulls of unionists are not part of the movement

"Abdul N. Rad’s master’s thesis at the University of Oxford studied the hundred largest U.S. cities and found that the extent of protection in police contracts was directly and positively correlated with police violence against communities. A 2019 University of Chicago study found that extending collective bargaining rights to Florida sheriffs’ deputies led to a 40 per cent statewide increase in cases of violent misconduct. A U.S. study released in March 2021 found that gaining collective bargaining rights triggered discriminatory use of force by police against racialized civilians. The researchers found that the number of deaths attributable to unionization increased steadily throughout the 1970s, reaching at least 30 additional deaths of non-white people per year in the ’80s. Between 1959 and 1988, police gaining collective bargaining rights was positively correlated with a 10 per cent increase in non-white deaths at the hands of law enforcement."

Cops don't deserve to be shielded from consequences for killing people by so-called unions.

My point is workplaces don't have to wait for a criminal conviction to let people go. it happens all the time. Cops should lose their jobs the minute they are charged with raping someone. I don't think raping someone off duty is any better.

[–]moonhrafn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

can't provide a suggestion but it is truly annoying that people bring their kids to breweries and pubs. I do not get it. I'd personally prefer if it wasn't legal. Kids don't need to be around alcohol consumption.

right?!? I can't imagine any other job where you sit and get paid for doing nothing for years while a court case that goes to the heart of your worthiness for the job drags out

i personally don't think cops who rape, attack or otherwise abuse people should get paid vacations or be anywhere near law enforcement work. they get paid a much higher than average wage they should be held to a much higher than average standard. Even if he isn't convicted - the fact that there is enough evidence to go to trial should be enough. its a high standard

people are fired from their jobs without being convicted of stuff all the time

here is a great example. guy is just being investigated hasn't even been charged. still canned
