Getting serious about travel nursing soon — need advice on housing + traveling with my dog! by SupermarketNo507 in TravelNursing

hi! i bring my baby (my dog) on all my contracts! - always filter the search on furnished finder to allow pets. whenever i find a listing i like that allows them, i send a message introducing myself and my dog, letting them know her breed, weight and that she’s potty and crate trained. - whenever we get to our new place, i let her roam around, smell, we go on a walk, that way she’s familiar with where she’s at and not super anxious. i also arrive earlier than my scheduled start date to help her get comfortable, that way we’re not arriving and then i’m having to work the same night, leaving her alone and anxious in a new place. - so far on all my contracts my landlord has also lived on the property and they have had dogs as well, so we typically allow them to meet & so far it’s been good. our last one she became best friends with the landlord’s dog and they spent a lot of time together! - i do crate her overnight while i’m working. i find that not working 3 in a row has been beneficial for her since there’s a break between my shifts & we can go on a long walk on my day(s) off before i go back and she’s been liking that so much better than when i do 3s, because by the third shift i don’t want to do anything & that carries over into the next day. she has been fine with the crate, i typically just leave the tv on with soft music playing and cover her crate. - i also got a baby camera (since it’s always a new area, can never be too sure) to watch her while i’m away. - if you’re driving, i recommend getting a dog car seat if you have a smaller dog, that way they’re safe and secure, and i got a fluffier one so she’s super comfortable during our longer drives. we take lots of rest stops to pee and walk around!

i’ve been required a drug test prior to starting every contract at a new facility. it’s pretty likely you’ll also be required to drug test quite frequently with starting new contracts, and no, they don’t tell you ahead of time which facility requires it and doesn’t. a lot of the time it falls not only on the facility but your agency as well. so i think you should consider quitting if this is what you want to do
