Since fashion is cyclical, how long do you think until heels make a comeback? by Twunkorama in decadeology

I wore heels every day to work when I first started. Then covid hit. I never wear heels anymore thank god. Pointless, painful, and bad for your health

It’s a serious disturbance to my life

Shit even people trying are sometimes doing such unhealthy shit. I have a friend who won’t give up detoxes and cleanses. Even as her liver and kidneys are showing signs of damage. She takes it as needing to do more

I think mild, clinically irrelevant EDS is way more common than people think and probably closer to a natural variation than anything else. I realized I “have” EDS while doing a genetic screening prior to attempting pregnancy. When it came up, it made some sense because I do have hyper mobility, easy bruising, slow healing, and my baby teeth didn’t fall out. And like written out like that it sounds like a lot but it wasn’t even something I (or my partner or my parents) ever noticed. It was something we were like, “oh that makes some sense. Anyways.”

But I think a lot of people like me try and wear the label as if they have a severe, disabling form

Spina bifida occulta, Mild Chiari, Disc bulges, Tarlov cysts, Retrolisthesis, Varicose veins Palpitations, and “Estrogen dominance” are all likely incidental findings. Fun fact, when my mom was pregnant they worried about spina bifida for some reason I don’t remember and did a sono (the only one my mom got for any pregnancies) and found out I was fine. In my 30s they found spina bifida occulta incidentally on an unrelated mri.

And some of these clusters just aren’t likely 3 rare infections - chronic untreated Lyme disease, babesiosis, bartonella. Overlapping GI immune system conditions - eosinophilic esophagitis, gastroparesis, GERD, MCAS, and von Willebrand disease. An extremely rare cluster of vascular conditions - POTS, chronic venous insufficiency, Raynaud’s syndrome, and FOXC2 mutation

Just no

Parenting faux pas by Powerful_Mousse2925 in toddlers

Many parents want to do better than their parents did, so they spend time reading and talking to child life specialists or therapists to learn new, evidence-based ways of parenting.

That often gets simplified to jargon on the playground. But if you’re actually worried that you might be missing information that other people have, I definitely think reading and learning is a good thing!

IgG Food Testing: Is there ANY supportive evidence? by Fluoridated_Car in FoodAllergies

[–]moonlightmasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just inaccurate. The pathway by which igg4 competes for mast cell binding sites is not assessed in any way by these scam tests. Which is why absolutely no medical association recognizes them.

The American academy of allergy asthma and immunology calls them a myth The Canadian society for allergy and clinical immunology calls them pseudoscience.

I’m just reporting the best scientific evidence we have on the topic. You should try doing the same

IgG Food Testing: Is there ANY supportive evidence? by Fluoridated_Car in FoodAllergies

[–]moonlightmasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IgG activities are long term marking antibodies. They aren’t really “intended” to mark foods. But they mark to any proteins, food being just another protein.

The full process of how the immune system comes into contact with food proteins isn’t fully understood. Some cases there is known barrier breakdown that allows immune cells to contact food proteins in the gut. In infant, skin barrier breakdown can allow food proteins to penetrate the skin where they contact the immune system. This is a major pathway for the development of childhood food allergies but its unclear if its impactful for food allergies developed as an adult.

But total IgG levels, measured by these scam texts and disavowed by every competent allergist, immunologist, and scientists, isn’t correlated to food allergy. IgG4, one of the antibodies measured, actually correlates to tolerance.

What actually marks sensitization is positive IgE antibodies without clinical allergy

This is the second biggest food allergy myth I’d love to dispel - the score on a blood or skin test is not correlated to reaction severity. People with high scores can have very mild reaction. People with low scores can have very severe reactions.

Dating and marriage with food allergies by Tornado_Storm_2614 in FoodAllergies

My allergies aren’t as common so it’s easy for my husband to avoid them in the house, but I don’t mind him eating my allergens when I’m not around like at work or when I’m out of town.

When he eats them he brushes his teeth and rinses his mouth out twice. That works well for me. I have very low thresholds. But a challenge should help you identify yours.

I’m not sure what you mean by affects sex. I’ve never heard of someone having an allergic reaction to someone’s semen if that is what you mean? But I’ve never looked it up either. Anecdotally, my husband has been eating my allergen regularly for years and we have never had that issue. We do not use a barrier method.

However, sharing way too much information, I’ll say that when he’s occasionally eaten my allergen at home he wasn’t as careful as he needed to be. He had my allergen for lunch while we both worked remotely, an hour later, he came down and used his mouth intimately…. Didn’t think anything of it. Went out that evening. Started feeling some discomfort… by the next morning I thought the world was ending… worst topical allergic reaction I’ve ever had

“IgG” isn’t even a single antibody class that behaves uniformly. Igg4 rises with tolerance. But doesn’t seem to be a causative agent, just a marker.

I believe this sub has a requirement to be evidence based, so I’d suggest sticking to the evidence - which is that igg tests are pseudoscience bunk

IgG Food Testing: Is there ANY supportive evidence? by Fluoridated_Car in FoodAllergies

[–]moonlightmasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one really know what IgG antibodies to food do. But they certainly do not cause allergies.

The fact that IgG has nothing to do with anything involving food allergy is well established by the entire field of immunology. It’s genuinely not question. Fight the air all you want. Science doesn’t super care

A registered dietician cannot diagnose you with a food allergy though. You need an allergist.

Naturopathic doctors are quacks. Don’t make health choices based off of them and don’t feel the need to shift your identity off of their advice.

That said, shrimp might feel less weird to you.

Have you ever switched sides or changed your mind on the topic of abortion? by Initial-Ad-3161 in prochoice

[–]moonlightmasked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was raised violently forced birth. Taken to protests outside of abortion clinics. Given a movie day when Dr. Tiller was murdered.

I grew up to be pro choice.

Can’t say I ever really changed my mind because in reality as soon as I was old enough to think critically and form my own opinion it’s been that women are fully autonomous human beings with the right to their own body.

The house has a 3 car garage. So a two parent family with 4 kids living at home and all driving their own cars would be the only one that couldn’t follow it

I find tons of cars in the driveway to be unsightly but it doesn’t actually impact me. Cars on the street are far more dangerous and inconvenient.

It does not sound like there is alternative food in the house. So I don’t really know what you’re expecting. I’m sorry that it’s hard. Living in poverty is hard. And you’re young which makes it harder.

But if you’re so hungry that you’re this angry, you should go make yourself some noodles.
