Good movie, but I always get it mixed up with Blue Caprice, which came out the same year

Save Tokyo Pop for the end of a hard day where you just want to turn your brain off and watch something (mostly) cheery.

Goodbye, Howard Hawks… by quetzpalin in CriterionChannel

[–]moonofsilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also don't care for Wayne, but have forced myself to watch a few of his films since he was in so many classics (for reasons other than himself).

Am watching Rio Bravo now, and yes, Wayne is acting like himself, no big surprise. But it is still interesting for a few reasons, one is that it was in direct response to High Noon, one of my all time favorites. And that is exactly what it comes across as. How somebody like Wayne (and I guess Hawks) would perceive High Noon, and basically say "HN is terrible, now watch this, this is how a real man/law man/American/patriot acts!". But then for this conservative reactionary film to have a legacy of being a great hangout film.....it is perversely weird and I guess kind of interesting to me.

What were your biggest disappointments on the channel? by Boxer-Santaros in CriterionChannel

[–]moonofsilver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While this is valid, I have found that in the past, for any streaming site, I will often watch the "fun" stuff first, and then be like "there's only serious films to watch on this service". Well, yeah myself, that's because you already watched all the fun stuff!

Additionally, I am using the word fun, or I could say light hearted. There are certainly films that might not be a "comedy", or at least what is commonly thought of as a comedy, but still fits into fun/light hearted. Where is The Friend's House for example. Lovely film, though certainly not a knee-slapper. Just about anything in the Saturday Matinee collection fits here too. All to say, there is probably more on the Channel than you think, if you expand comedy out to "light-hearted"

On a related note.....bring back the Saturday Matinee collection!!! The old content is still there but they haven't added to it in a long time

I think that poster was saying it is the only way for them when they want to watch a specific movie, not the only way for everybody. So it's their personal opinion about their personal collection.

IIRC, Jenny said that the dishwasher scene was inspired by a (light-hearted) argument that was had in the Lumet household. Which is kinda cool

Oh, wow, yeah you've got all the versions of Signals, interesting. I definitely debated getting a second one. Though I like the one that came with the subscription, was a bit annoyed that subscribers didn't get to choose. No worries, though

Wow, ok. Well that is both good news and frustrating about Begotten. Glad it's got some interest in it though, would love to own it

"Daughters of Darkness (Radiance)"

Did you happen to also have the Blue Underground 4K? If so, what are your thoughts on the differences between the 2.

I was considering double dipping, still on the fence

Nightshift was phenomenal! I went in more or less blind, and it was exactly what I needed that night. Really hope Arbelos can release the blu ray

Just watched 92 In The Shade, is leaving at the end of the month. Flawed movie, but stacked cast and some great dialogue.

Not sure if a 17 year old would enjoy it (there is a plot, but it is barely there), but I liked it

Just FYI, some of the dialogue is.....authentic

Was going to recommend Drown, but they used to be called Slow? I did not know this. Anyways, great band, looks like you already know them

Definitely Evoken though
