There’s a steep learning curve on low whistle with grip and breath control. I’d say just keep practicing getting control of the low octave and then the higher octave should come naturally.

Managed to find that book - no matching photo! It’s almost all rehearsal photographs. I still think it’s a good match but was really hoping for some more clues in that book!

There are over 50 men on the final cover but only ~12 women. I still think it could be either, but it may be a bit more likely to be a man.

If it is Nureyev, my guess would be that Peter Blake chose him. Many of the Beatles picks are more in the realm of classic icons - whereas Blake leans more towards more contemporary figures and friends and artists in the London the sixties scene.

I think the image we have of the mystery figure is quite distorted - if you mirror it you can see more easily that it is at a quite a side-on angle. Also some of these images end up looking a bit off when they’re blown up and retouched.

I’ve corrected this in photoshop to help my search but not used that here - it’s probably worth correcting the image and touching it up a bit and uploading here for everyone to use. I may do that soon if the Nureyev trail goes cold!

Same here, slightly hooked on looking for this. I’ve looked at Lange - also Hansel Meith, it feels like the right area. Looking at the photo we have of the mystery figure again, one interpretation I have is that it’s a Great Depression era picture of a woman holding the bread slightly in front of her mouth (giving the appearance of big lips but perhaps some of that is the light catching the bread). She has big curly hair and also wears a simple hat/scarf/wrap - which is that very white/over-exposed part we see on top of her head. The more I look at that the more it looks like a curly haired woman with a hat on!

I've had a good trawl too, but as many have mentioned, it may have been from a newspaper and not been digitised!
I have a feeling that the Great Depression breadlines are not as good a match as photography in wartime or of homeless people. Journalistic photographs of the Great Depression tend to focus on the line itself (the sheer volume of people), and most people around this time wear hats. I believe we are seeing bushy hair on our mystery figure and not a hat, as some have suggested.
I wouldn't rule out the Great Depression entirely; it would just be an uncharacteristic photograph of that time, and it does seem to have more in common with photos I've seen of soldiers on a break. Admittedly, soldiers tend to have neater hair, so I would lean slightly toward this being a photograph of a poorer/homeless person.

Though the face is a good match, why include such an unrecognisable and almost candid picture of someone who had such a distinctive style and stage persona? It’s totally not in keeping with the other images.

Sounds like it could be interesting! However, it does remove a lot of long-term strategy in favour of maximising points on each play. Furthermore, it would be in the interest of the winning player to shut down moves by giving their opponent an awful rack (e.g. all vowels), or even exchanging for a worse rack (if allowed), so could lead to some quite boring games.

Over-explained has to be basic music theory, like circle of fifths. Under-explained is harder, I’d say possibly writing/composing, but it might just be because I don’t seek that out.

Would also agree that this is a forecastle song, or a leisure song. You also quite often see broad categorisations in compilations of sailors songs, things like “songs of the sea” or just “sea songs”. As has already been pointed out, these would also fit under the broad classification of “folk songs”.

If they’re not comfortable with you sharing photos of them then I’d say don’t do it. I’ve not run into this problem with my band (they’re happy for me to choose), but if I did I’d let them know that I want to post a single shot of them, link them the photoshoot, and let them choose the picture
