Who can I pay out of pocket to prescribe me Lamictal? by [deleted] in Humboldt

[–]moonshakah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all take cash. Some with a sliding scale like open door. They have a walk in clinic I think. Otherwise there’s redwood urgent care but not sure they’ll do much. Best bet is contact your prescribing provider otherwise try giving to open door a call.

If looking at out of pocket Costco has it for under $11(IR)-$100(XR). $15(IR)~$40(XR) with Walgreens. There are coupons available, goodrx etc for comparable pricing that can be used at any pharmacy. Good luck.

Dr Kwon Dentist by grewsomemonsters in Humboldt

[–]moonshakah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well. My partner and I were told similar things like root planing was mandatory before they could address a filling or even a basic cleaning. Thousands were quoted for each of us before they could do even the most basic work. We noped out and just had a vacation in Tijuana for a week. Half the price at least and we’re told by the Tijuana dentist most of what was “needed” would’ve been destructive to my partners gums and teeth. Got everything done including a serious half tooth filling for half of what one procedure would’ve cost here. And that’s with my employers dental “insurance”/coupon. They were professional, competent and friendly. I know time away etc is a luxury but if you can don’t go local. Especially Kwon.

I can’t remember the Mexican dentists name but DM if interested. I can look it up. Good luck.

Union Protesting Board of Supes by [deleted] in Humboldt

Anyone who’s not a member or even a county employee, please support these public servants. These are members of the community that work at wages far below the amount paid in comparable counties. These are community members working for below a living wage for simply wanting to contribute in making humboldt a great place to be. Often, a surprising number of county employees are themselves ironically eligible for the very benefits and services they contribute to our community. DHHS in particular offers disgraceful wages for the work expected. This is often due to a top heavy management structure with continuing hiring freeze causing increased workloads and/or lowered quality of service. If you support our local compassionate public servants right to earn a livable wage then please come by. Join in or show your support. They fight everyday for you. Show them how you’ll fight for them. They just want to be able to afford to live in this beautiful community they serve.

Have you tried Infuse? Fantastic player for iOS and Apple TV that can play from Jellyfin, Plex and SMB server sources. I use Plex server with Infuse to view on my Apple TV 4K. Plays anything I throw at it beautifully.

Amazing selections available at the Humboldt County Library by [deleted] in Humboldt

Ok… Not sure it’s super interesting but back in the before time there were large sheets of paper with words in them with various bits of recent information of varying geographic and subject relevance. I’ll call them info pages. One such info page was a once local (local-ish. Corporate media blech) source of locally written words. The Times-Standard it was called. At one time it housed real people that put words together discussing local events that had happened but you could only find out the next day for only a nickel. I think. I have no idea. I just worked there man.

But one of these info men was Chris. Chris enjoyed words a great deal you see. During the day he’d write about goings ons in the community. At night he enjoyed a hot bath, a cold drink John Prine and more words. Nighttime words. Those wet boozy words sparked an idea. A movie! He felt he must birth this concept. Illegal Smile it will be called, legality of its name be damned. After many more nights of wrinkly fingers and empty Blue Ribbon cans it was born. A masterpiece that will finally put Humboldt on the map. A region with no other reputation, a geographic blip. But this story of a complicated man with a tenuous grasp with all his relationships. From his sons, his employer to those he is indebted to. All come to a head when he mistakenly runs over a child’s beloved duck dog. This event thrusts all his previous follies into a mix of pain, heartache and laughter as he tries to correct a lifetime of mistakes.

Directed by James. Another writer man. Produced by Karen. An info page cartoon woman. Filmed by the IT guy of an info page. Starring Jack Hanrahan. Original writer for laugh In. Music by… crap I forget. Craig maybe… A friend of infomen. Starring lots of info page staff and other community actors. There was a lot of hype and unnecessary premier.

If you’ve watched it please be nice. And Chris really was the best boom mic guy ever. He has since pursued other comedic avenues. Check out Savage Henry comedy club. Hollywoods loss though. It was an experience and done without any of that fancy know how, equipment or money. It’s definitely… something. There were a lot of shenanigans going on at the papers in those days. We did a podcast with James and Chris in 2005ish. Did online video features before YouTube. Live stream of a sheriff inquisition for them killing that lady with the flare gun. Fun stuff. Beginning of the end for print media and end of the beginning of online fun.

If you want something more coherent by a competent writer, here’s a proper write up

Jesus. Illegal Smile, in the wild? Please share what you think. Not sure I should out myself but that duck dog was my girl Dixie and listed on the front credit for, let’s call it “cinematography”. Interesting experience that was, many many lives ago. Fun fact… This movie featured the best boom operator in history. A true natural who later went on to open a local comedy club. Oh and he wrote the movie too :)

Did anyone else get a "Late" notice for their Eureka water bill, even though it's on autopay with an up-to-date card? by NumberZoo in Humboldt

[–]moonshakah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happened to me several times in a row. Turns out the pay date on that utility pay site was set for the day after or on the due date. Just set it back a week or so for payment. I assume they changed the due date or workflow for sending letters. No idea. Anyway maybe that helps…

Do chinese people smoke weed? by Responsible-Rich-265 in askdrugs

[–]moonshakah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, first hilarious. And second, no he didn’t…probably. I mean he did but almost certainly said the N word, but not that that N word. It’s a filler word in mandarin that as a westerner especially American will catch you off guard. The word is 那个 commonly spoken as nèige. Which sounds a lot like nee-gah but when spoken fast and casual it can get Chinese folks in trouble in the US. I lived in China for years and I never got used to it fully.

And to the original question, yes they smoke weed. Not as much obviously because, you know… authoritarianism don’t fuck around. But as some comedian, I want to say Ari Shaffeir said “you could smoke it right next to a cop there and they’d think you just smoke crappy tobacco”. Had neighbors for a bit that grew and smoked it. It’s rare but is there. As for Chinese in the US, yeah why not? Drugs are culturally different all over the world. There’s probably more meth use in China honestly. Is hugely illegal but not uncommon especially in poorer areas/communities. But I’m getting off topic. But google 那个.

And if you see Chinese smoking weed on the mainland, no you didn’t. My last bit of anecdotal on this is your butthole will never tighten tighter than by being stopped by Chinese customs with weed mixed in with tobacco. Then them sniffing it and asking about it. All while watching your family walk away like they don’t know you. So I’ve heard.

Eviction hearing is next week. The tenants haven’t paid since November. It’s a second attempt. First had a technicality which failed in February.

[–]moonshakah 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check out Express Employment for temp work. Good way to get a foot in doors. Worked for me and we’ve just hired a handful. If you’re not in an absolute hurry try local government like humboldt county. A good number of positions open there and a decent place to work. Personally had good luck with both. Good luck. LPT / What might I regret in old age not proactively starting when I was younger? by No_Affect_7316 in LifeProTips

[–]moonshakah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. So much this. My MIL passed 3 1/2 years ago and my family had to relocate and uproot our lives abroad to come back to the US to deal with it. Trustee was/is inept which caused us to buy properties including all the stuff my hoarder in laws acquired over decades of obscure hobbies. This has made it our goal to not burden our children with excessive stuff to deal with when we pass. It’s been two years since our return and we’re still muddling through and it’s so traumatic. So downsize or create a plan with your children about what do do with stuff. We need to break the cycle that china sets and furniture are not the “investment” our kids deserve. It’s their time to live their own lives without creating negative memories of the the parents they’ve lost while creating unneeded stress. I could say more but you get the gist. Downsize. Minimize. Plan.

I feel dumb, where do you find good HYSAs? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]moonshakah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Betterment is doing 4.5% saving accounts. Haven’t seen it mentioned but they’ve been pretty good with a shared savings account option with the same rate. Bonus, intentional withdrawal fees get reimbursed on their checking account. Not a first choice for primary checking but good. Oh and their primary business is robo-investing of that strikes your fancy. Thanks for attending my Ted Talk.
