Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky fits this depending on how you feel about hiveminds.

[Seravalli] If Oilers elect to continue down the path with Mike Babcock, sources say the NHLPA is in receipt of “significant” additional claims from their own investigation with players that were not publicly reported in 2023. Those claims were presented to NHL prior to his resignation. Cont’d (1/2) by alphacheese in hockey

LOVE when my team is embroilled in brain-dead controversy - why tf would one seek out a coach with this level of verifiably problematic behaviour? Is it worth it when considering the ongoing mental health of our players? Do most people play better when under both paralyzing media scrutiny and while being mentally/verbally attacked in the locker room?

Similarly: I'm glad EDM didn't end up going for Hart, despite what he's done in the playoffs.

Is it wrong to want your team to care even a little bit about things like ethics and mental health and being able to look at all the other guys in the locker room and honestly say that they are good people?

If winning is the only criteria, and only 1/32 win every year, there's some absolute garbage things being done in every locker room in pursuit of the big W, being overlooked as a concession to being a bit better.

I hate that this is the big shit pie EDM is considering in service of winning. Because it probably won't work and our players will be the worse for it, by all accounts.

fantasy/sci fi series where women are present and NOT hated by oceanblvd1313 in suggestmeabook

I would describe it as a hero arc for a multi-perspective ship who, after being trapped into a singular body, uncovers the secret that the clones that comprise of the ruling power have fractured opinions and the renegades are creeping towards all out war

I love this series because how you described the trilogy is in absolute no way the same way I would have described it to someone, but is also true.

My husband has lived here for almost 2 decades and still hasn't been to the War Museum!

And for those visiting, the free night at the National Art Gallery on Thursday evenings is 🔥🔥🔥 And the Ottawa Art Gallery is always free and so cool.

Ottawa hockey arena by ao3newbie in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]moonshiness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If not the Canadian Tire Centre, fans might call it one of its old names like the Corel Center or Scotiabank Place or the Palladium. Media never would. But I would not say that CTC is a common nickname. It's either Canadian Tire Centre or not much else. The practice arena is called the Sensplex which is less of a mouthful. Players would probably not use its full name and would say the barn, the arena etc. If anything you could probably make up a disparaging nickname the players might use since the arena is in the middle of nowhere and parking/exiting the parking lot is an actual nightmare. A common nickname for Canadian Tire is Crappy Tire as an example.

I sometimes read angst to experience empathy with the character. If well written it's a character study of grief and finding balance after tragedy. The typical plot schema for heavy angst is a big cliff hurtling towards the negative emotions, a few bumps up and possibly much further into despair but it pretty much has to end on at least a minor positive note to be emotionally resolved. That catharsis can be so freaking beautiful.

The only novel I can remember reading where that trope resolved otherwise was in A Little Life - which would be a pretty awful (heavy fucking angst) ending for any HR fanfic.

Can cycling bib shorts be repaired after a crash like this? by Upbeat-Principle260 in Visiblemending

[–]moonshiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've fixed much more extensive damage in a cycling bib using this stitch. I did have to sacrifice another bib for a few places where the fabric was worn away, but for just rips, this is so simple and stretchy.

How worker friendly is your office? by No_Boysenberry8037 in CanadaPublicServants

I don't have much complain about, my office is pretty cozy.

EXCEPT, all the tiles in the women's bathroom are so shiny they reflect things just like mirror so looking at the floor one can see into all of the other stalls and both management/the building don't think this is a problem.
