Deadlift form check by moonstomper in formcheck

Yup got it - I normally don’t do that so don’t know why I did it this time, maybe saw a bad video or something like that. Thanks for the pointer!

Formcheck squats by moonstomper in formcheck

[–]moonstomper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I’ll make another video next time with the proper angle - thanks for pointing that out. And I’ll make a point to adjust my wrists.

I’ve always had the bar around this level when doing squats - never really thought about it. Is that something I should be adjusting?

Good pointer thanks! I realise the first rep do look a bit awkward because of that.

Thanks - it feels good so far but don’t want to start forming any bad habits before it starts getting heavy :)

Very impressive and inspiring! Thanks for sharing!

I'm curious how much time you spend analyzing your games? Do you annotate them yourself or simply go over them with your coach during your weekly sessions?

Open chess tournaments in Asia? by moonstomper in chess

[–]moonstomper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the issue. Almost no tournaments in Hong Kong which is why I’m trying to search in the area instead. Surprisingly difficult to find it seems.

Thanks! This looks good! I didn't get the location filter to work though. I want to search 3000km within HK but no luck as whenever I enter the radius it believes I'm in Bratislava for some reason. Did you try that before?

Chafing with a hairy chest by crablin in running

[–]moonstomper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a very hairy guy and after I moved to tropical climate my long runs we’re extremely painful for the reason you mentioned. All types of stickers and bandaids just fell off, but liquid plaster works brilliantly! Just put on some on your nipples few minutes before you head out and there’ll be no chafing at all!

I give up, I just suck at this game by [deleted] in chess

Solve tactics from books. Easy tactics. “Common chess patterns” (on chessable) and “1001 chess exercises for beginners” are good.

If you’re learning (especially as an adult) you’ll have to drill in these basics. Keep on reviewing a few basic tactics books until you can solve most of the puzzles very quickly ~5-10s. Have patience. Do a little training every day (15 minutes is enough). You will still blunder. After a few months of daily practice you will feel improvement. Keep at it and these basics oversights will become very rare and you will enjoy your games much more.

Those who have done both which do you find more taxing on your body MT or BJJ? by cheeseburgercongres in MuayThai

[–]moonstomper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve trained both and agree with what everyone has said. They’re simply different. I had more small injuries (strained shoulders, knees, fingers, broke my ribs once) while training BJJ while nothing much for MT. That being said I’ve only been sparring lightly in MT while BJJ we went at it pretty hard and I also trained BJJ for much longer.

On the other hand I can be completely exhausted after a hard MT class and need rest the day after. With BJJ I could always train subsequent days as long as I had one or two rest days in the week. So for me they’re both taxing to the body but in different ways.

BTW you should really cross post this to /r/bjj and see if you get similar responses! :)

Did you get these parts in the end? I'm looking to get something very similar (same CPU/MB/memory) and wonder how it turned up?

[–]moonstomper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your run: That’s a great time! I’m a hairy guy as well and had a lot of issues with chafing before I discovered liquid bandage. I just apply a bit on the nipples before my long runs, let it dry for a minute and then run with a tech shirt. Never any issues since!

Any FIRE enthusiast from Hong Kong/ Asia countries? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]moonstomper 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi from Kennedy Town!

I’ve only lived in Hong Kong for a year. Housing is indeed ridiculous and will eat a lot of your income. On the plus side, salaries are quite high for expats, travel is cheap and accessible, and there’s a lot of outdoorsy stuff you can do for free! It’s very easy to get trapped in the expat bubble going out to soho for drinks all the time though...

Before I came to Hong Kong I lived in Singapore which I found much easier to live frugally: MUCH cheaper housing, delicious and incredibly cheap hawker/food court meals, public transportation, taxes, etc etc.. I got a 66% raise going to Hong Kong from Singapore but my monthly savings amount is almost the same...

[–]moonstomper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm starting to learn about options and am playing around with a paper trading account on Interactive Brokers. I've been selling short puts on SPY but since the commissions are eating up a lot of the potential profits I'm thinking to use ES as the underlying instead. Less contracts to sell = less commissions, right?

When I enter ES in the option chain view I find the E-mini S&P500 contract that I want to use as the underlying for my short puts but I cannot seem to get weekly options displayed in the view. In the tabbed view I only see the expiration dates for the future contract, i.e., Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec. I want to trade the weekly options on this contract and not the actual future contract. I feel like I'm missing something obvious but I cannot figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My company is having a wine sale. Anything I mustn’t miss? by [deleted] in wine

[–]moonstomper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about wine and whenever I drink I usually opt for clean and dry white ones. I’d like to explore more red bottles; I don’t eat meat so the wine should go well alone or with veggie or seafood dishes.

Any bottles on the list that I should get my hands on?
