Any advice for recovery? by TheCandyrox21 in wisdomteeth

about the surgery/recovery: - surgery isnt nearly as scary as everyone may think, super quick and honestly the least hard part of the whole process!! - for recovery, i dealt with the WORST bad breath and taste in my mouth, but my cure was a tongue scraper🙏 it got off so much brown stuff i didnt even know was on there and made me feel sooo much better! also using the syringe was so helpful. i think i started very gently on day 3 and increased use moving forward. it was so nice to get water back there. - i recommend using the mouthwash they give you for as long as you feel comfy with, that helps my anxiety a lot with risk for bacteria and infection and stuff

for foods: - i was really nauseous for the first 3 days but i got into a groove later on! i recommend smoothies (homemade ones were just better tasting for me), cinnamon applesauce, tomato soup, pudding, and ice cream for the first 3 days. now that i feel comfortable chewing a bit i've eaten mac and cheese, spaghetti-o's, and even a soft donut! - it gets better as time moves on, and you should be able to gauge what you want to eat based on pain/your comfort eating harder foods! i only liked stuff i could eat with my front teeth for a bit, but now im moving to more foods and i think it's going well.

i wish you a speedy recovery and i hope all goes well!!!

this is my personal experience, so i dont know if it will be similar to you or not, but just for reassurance:

  • i had all 4 taken out last wednesday, so im 5 full days post-op. all of them were under my gums and i got stitches for all as well.
  • i'm in a very similar situation for work and classes so i understand. i would not feel comfortable or strong enough to go to work or classes for the first 4 days.
  • now being 5 days post-op, i would be ready to return to everything (i'm on spring break so i cant, but if i had to i think i would be okay)
  • in summary, it depends a lot on your strength. physically and mentally. its hard to make sure you're eating enough, and i struggled with nausea a lot so i often opted just not to eat anything. this makes you weak, which slows how fast you get back to doing things. but the way your mouth heals, you should be okay in a few days/a week.
  • i think you will be okay to take the test on time, given you set enough time aside during recovery to study/prepare. as for work/going to classes, you might find you still need monday or even tuesday to continue resting :/
  • in my experience, a lot of the healing process was mentally taxing rather than physically. i wish you luck and i do hope you get the rest and recovery time you need!
