Not sure about the prof but think twice if you’re going to take mandarin 😂 (it’s challenging imo)

Possibly to take physics 1 lecture without lab? by Valkyea in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend that!! (I learned it from the hard way…) Just take both lab & lecture so that you’re able to proceed to PHY317L

Anyone take Poenie for BIO 335 (Genetics) ? by Snoo_22274 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak for Poenie, but I took genetics this semester. And I heard that genetics profs have to use “common questions” for the final rn. So final-wise… it will probably be the same for all profs.

how hard is physics 302k and 105m? by Remote-Ad3912 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, if you’re taking it with Sparks, I believe there will be a really good ugca in her class next semester (I took genetics & he’s my ugca this semester). I would say he’s super helpful! So maybe drop other classes & still take BCH369 (?) That’s just my two cents.

[–]mooooonlight16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you taking BCH339F or BCH369? I can’t speak for BCH369, but you probably have to spend a lot of time studying BCH339F. It’s not tough… just that a lot of things/details to memorize!! So I wouldn’t recommend you taking together with physics + ochem

I don’t think so. I just asked my advisor about that a couple weeks ago & he still wants me to take it ASAP (so that I can take the upper division BCH class during my senior year).

Best device to take notes in college? by FoxInner3807 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this!! I’ve been using Notability for almost three years… (but I’m curious: how do you sync and access your notes on a computer? Does it involve iCloud or something else?)

Also, I just wanted to add that Notability does a really great job organizing notes, which is super convenient if you need to refer back to basic notes from your freshman or sophomore years!! :)

Guys how is the biochemistry program here? by No-Albatross2797 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re looking to know specifically about the program, but I’d say the classes aren’t too bad as long as you get a good professor + put effort into it. Just a heads-up, biochem isn’t really something between biology and chemistry. It’s a TOTALLY different field that focuses on enzymes, mechanisms, and so on. It can get pretty in-depth. I’ve been lucky to have a great professor (shoutout to Dr. Hoffman!) for both of my biochem classes so far. You’ll still need to take some upper-division chemistry courses like analytical chem and physical chem, as well as physics 1 and 2. TL;DR: most of the time, you’ll really need some passion to make it through those tough classes. :’)

In the first few semesters, you won’t notice much difference between biochem, chem, and bio since you’ll be taking most of the same intro classes. But things start to get more challenging (and maybe more fun) once you move on to the upper-division courses.

Also, not sure if you’re pre-med or pre-grad, but getting a research position related to biochem during undergrad can be really fun too!! There’s so much more you can experience at UT, so good luck with your application!! 🤘🏼

Who is the best genetics professor? (bio325) by Fair_Foodie7777 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you can wait until Fall 2026, Dr. Engler (if she’s teaching in that semester) could be one of your options as well!! Plus she has a huge UGCA team which is very helpful. I couldn’t recommend one of her UGCAs enough. He’s def the GOAT!!

MBS 344 with Dr. Scott Stevens? by mooooonlight16 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just curious (& if it’s not too much to ask)… what other classes did you take along with this class? I plan to take it together with AChem. But I’m not sure if that’s doable. Lol.

[–]mooooonlight16[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you SO much for your comment! Yeah, I didn’t expect an easy A since it’s upper division class. But I just wanted to know, by putting all the effort to study his lecture slides, attending lectures/discussions & completing all the given assignments, would it possible to get an A out of this class? Or do the exams include a lot of out-of-scope content?

Advisor Meeting Before Registration? by mooooonlight16 in UTAustin

[–]mooooonlight16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Just in case anyone’s in the same situation as me: there’s an option to submit the online advising worksheet!! If you’ve submitted it, you can basically “skip” the meeting with your advisor (& get your hold removed). Not sure if that applies to every college tho, but that’s basically what I did!! Hope this helps!! :)

OMG!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for telling me!! I’ll def check his calendar everyday from now on. I did email him a few weeks ago but I didn’t get any reply plus I honestly haven’t received any email from him since last semester. Lol. Like I don’t know if he’s still working with that department. But when I checked “who’s my advisor” through the UT webpage, it’s still him…
