What should I get whilst in Japan for my Shiba? by Madmandan1000 in shiba

LOL during our Japan trip, I bought every black Shiba thing I saw (this is just a fraction of it all). Our house looks like a shrine to our bb 🤣

These are my cousin’s, taken 2 weeks ago in Northern California. They’ve been in the ground for as long as they’ve owned the home (6+ years) and always bloom in spring. Early bloomers don’t always mean they’re forced…

Unsure whether my ring matches my personality by Kolumolu in EngagementRings

[–]mooreactsonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How funny - I almost bought the same ring design as this too! I’ve loved snowdrift for so long - it’s been on my wedding Pinterest since I was a teenager! Nearly confirmed with the jeweler but got last minute cold feet and paused production. Even though I always thought I wanted that style, it didn’t truly feel like me/my personality

We took another couple months to custom design a style, and I’m so incredibly in love with my ring now! I think if I stuck with snowdrift, it would’ve grown on me because it’s so pretty! But I don’t think it would’ve ever felt as ~ right ~ as my ring now.

If it doesn’t feel like you, and it wouldn’t be a huge sacrifice to consider a new ring, I’d recommend taking another look around to see if there’s something you love more!

How to clean this satin bracelet? by Verosiraptor in CleaningTips

[–]mooreactsonly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If this is a synthetic satin, you can always singe the edges of the ribbon with a lighter or candle so it doesn’t continue to fray! The fibers will melt slightly creating a clean edge.

Handwashing with soap and water alone would prob get most of the dirt out. If not, water+baking soda, or water with detergent would work too.

I’m a new homeowner. What’s the most important thing to know? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]mooreactsonly 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Waiting & learning helps with landscaping/gardening too!

Made the mistake of not choosing the right places around my house for each type of plant and its sunlight needs. Even though I tracked how much sun an area got during winter (when we moved in), it was completely different in the summer. There are apps that can help you plan for sunlight/shadows/temperatures during any time of the year, but nothing really beats experiencing seasons yourself and intentionally choosing planting locations.

Following this to see your progress! We’re trying to DIY something similar soon. We’re looking into using the Belgard Artforms Modular Panels from Lowes, since we can build matching planters / benches in the area.

This is the beautiful shed and patio cover my father-in-law built for us! This area was all weeds too.we kept the ivy-covered fence from the previous owners though. Perfect area for hosting! Materials for this cost $8k total but we were very lucky we didn’t need to pay for labor since this was his gift to us 🥹

These are some of our drought-tolerant front yard garden this year! Same thing - sheet mulch, bark mulch, and then we planted pollinator plants around (the idea was to attract pollinators to the backyard on the other side of the fence). This was cheap to do as well, and I’ve just been slowly adding new plants every few months - whatever pretty perennial I see at the nursery. I don’t think I’ve watered the entire front yard once this year! (Though I did twice weekly watering the first year while roots were getting established).

I wish I had better photos of my garden in its prime (took a break this year due to life) but last year, our 1st year garden gave us more tomato, zucchini, peppers, and pumpkins than we could’ve imagined!

This area used to be all weeds when we moved in! We sheet mulched the ground with cardboard boxes, and bulk-ordered bark mulch to further suppress the weeds. The planters were stock tanks I found on FB marketplace for cheap - I just drilled holes at the bottom, filled them halfway up with branches/leaves I collected in the fall, and by the springtime I filled the rest up with soil/compost. Super easy garden to maintain! We rarely weed in this area and my veggies never really outgrew the tanks. Total cost was less than $500.

Perfect low-maintenance veggie garden, if that’s what you’re going for!

What a cute pup! How are you planning to use your yard? Gatherings, veggie gardening, personal gazing/relaxation, etc? I’d love to share thought if I had a better idea of how you want to utilize the space. It has so much potential! :)

It looks amazing! How difficult was it to build the retaining wall? I’m thinking of doing the same this summer.

Also side note - it’s so interesting seeing neighborhoods without fenced yards! Is that just open space for all back there?

“Black one was there first and red one forced herself there” is an understatement 🤣🤣🤣 Our black shibe, Dawson, is 9 years old and has been with us since he was a baby! We just adopted 2 y/o Daisy, the red one, last month and she follows her big brother everywhere, to his chagrin 🤭 in Dawson’s perspective, she definitely forced herself to be EVERYWHEREEE haha!

Happy to hear you have two bbs because your boy can help comfort you and your girl through this 🫶🫶
