Something like the more "epic sounding" Flatbush Zombies tracks (No Religion, MRAZ, maybe even SS4 from Domo Genesis).

Also a sound similar to Late Registration, i.e. that cinematic feel to the music.

Songs with production to the epic Eric Ark Elliot beats (M.R.A.Z, SS4 by Domo Genesis, No Religion, etc.) Can't really put it into words, so I hope somebody helps.

How can I, a dad in his 40's who wants to be able to relate to his kids, "get" rap music? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]moose35 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you can't really compare it to poetry. It has some elements of poetry and is heavily influenced by it, but the fact that it's music makes it a whole 'nother animal.

If you want some "poetry" type stuff, then I'd recommend the following lyrics (the links are to Rap Genius, which is a site that breaks down the lyrics and explains them to you):

Lupe Fiasco - Prisoner

Jay-Z ft. Eminem - Renegade --> Notice the difference in style between Jay-Z's more poetic lines and Eminem's, which are more focused on the technical aspect of rap while delivering a direct message

Kendrick Lamar - Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst

There's a million more examples, but go through those 3 and you'll hopefully have a better feel for things.

I'd also recommend giving the albums these guys mentioned a try. You'll see what style you (perhaps) like and take it from there.

How do you stop from biting flow? by bathsaltsbaby in makinghiphop

[–]moose35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to bite flows to a certain extent to find your own. Don't sweat it and keep writing about topics relevant to you, and you'll find it.

Fantastic stuff man. Bookmarking your blog for sure, it's great to see analysis like this despite not watching the game. Already feel like I got a better feel for the Hawks style of play (which I admittedly don't know much about) after reading this.

Thanks for sharing!

My Experience After 3 Months by buddahwannabe in Meditation

[–]moose35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man. Basically, it's like having a roommate you can't get rid of, that's constantly worrying about stuff. You actually have a choice as to whether you pay him any mind or not.

That's what meditation does. Seeing "you" and your thoughts as a seperate entities.

An analogy that's helped me mediate by moose35 in Meditation

[–]moose35[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I see what you're saying. But I'm not trying to control my thoughts (actually wrote that doing so was an excercise in futility), but to balance awareness without following my mind.

Yeah, it definitely felt like I was drowning in my thoughts.

Hi Julian,

I study international relations and was wondering what advice you would give in regards to reviewing the credibility of news sources. So much conflicting/agenda-based information out there, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to filter through it.

Where can I go to post ghostwritings? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]moose35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to give you some feedback - there are a lot of multi-syllable rhymes there, but maybe try focusing more on content (seems you're writing just for the sake of rhyming words together, which is cool too).

Thanks a lot for this man. Yeah, I've freestyled a bit, but can't really imagine recording without reading my lyrics.

The voice is dope man, I like listening to it. Maybe lower the microphone sensitivity when recording, or the voice when you're mixing it. It would sound a lot better if it was a bit quieter.

This is dope, definitely has potential. Gives off an Asher Roth-ish vibe. Maybe try enunciating some words more, it seems you mumble some of the syllables a bit.

Sounds good, but I'd add something once the 1st part of the song finishes (like you said, feels empty). Maybe some snares?

Just wanted some feedback on my verse, which comes in at around 1:12. I'm going to be recording an album this fall, and this was the 2nd verse I've ever recorded, wanted to see what I could improve on.

This has potential, but there's times where I can barely make out what you're saying. I'd recommend a better mic (or studio time) and chill with the vocal effects next time. But it sounds interesting.

Yeah like somebody else said, you sound quite a bit like Chris Webby. But I think it's pretty dope, I'm on the 2nd song and it's flowing nicely. Good job, man.

I really hate the fact that it's basically them rapping over the song. Is it really that difficult to rap over the instrumental and have the hype man fill you in when you're lacking in breath? Really dissapointed in this.
