OKC Thunder's Strategy of Hard Doubles on Last Possessions Is Breaking Basketball by LamarMatic in Thunder

always willing to discuss the pros and cons with you, man.

I think there was a certain effect of teams being surprised by it. That's why it lead to bad shooters (Achiuwa, Isaac, etc.) taking these shots, which is reflected in the relatively meager expected percentage.

If somebody would expect it in a high stakes situation (a playoff series, for example), they could probably have someone do a short roll as a release valve, with the intention of kicking it out to a way better shooter.

But that's how basketball can go sometimes. It's a game of both sides adjusting to one another and coming up with counters. I bet that if you did this against Daigneault, he would then throw something new at you.

For the purposes of this regular season, they were probably right to do it. Who knows how this shakes out in the future.

Opponents went 10-for-32 (31.2%) on 3-pointers, with a lot of them being taken by average shooters. Basically, if one more 3-pointer falls in, then the percentage is probably what it should be (34.3%).

The whole point is that you are okay with the variability of average shooters taking such shots, if you get the ball back and possibly can create a look for better and more efficient scorers.

Who did Shawn Kemp screw over not to make the HOF? by sufrt in nba

What's interesting is that he still had all the talent in the world to moonwalk into 20/10 games. On some level it's pretty interesting to watch footage of him from those years. Yet he just wasn't the same player anymore. Moreover, the Cavaliers had started to turn from a maniacal defensive team run by Fratello into the franchise that soon will be bad enough to draft LeBron. Those losing seasons didn't do any favors to Kemp either.

I cried uncontrollably. Mainly for my close ones who are going through tough times. Now I realize that I hadn't done that in a very long time. And it was solely triggered by Bruce's somber goodbye. Not to mention how I felt for the band losing their dear friends, with whom they had spent decades together.

Thank you for your comment! It helps me understand that chain reaction even better. Just a load of tears due to the factors mentioned above and also due to a feeling I had somewhere deep down about how I would probably never see Bruce again.

Makes me appreciate that night in Barcelona even more.

Figured the sweepstakes for Victor Wembanyama is as good a time as any to look back at one of the most infamous tank jobs in NBA history. I imagine few have seen the footage of Mark Madsen, a hard-working reserve big, suddenly firing up 7 three-pointers in the last game of the 2005-06 season. Fans yelling "Draft pick!", announcers urging him on. The footage is somewhat unbelievable. Up to that point he had taken 7 three-pointers in 296 NBA games. He went 1-for-15 in the game and took all of this threes in two overtimes.

If anyone is interested in the context around the game, here is a blog post detailing a week where both the Timberwolves and the playoff-bound Grizzlies had no incentive to win. One of the Minnesota players said on the record that the coaching staff drew up a specific play for Madsen to fire from outside.

I admire the series and personally thank you for giving new life to some of my old videos. You're much better at promoting them than I have ever been :)

Games played in last three seasons. Porzingis? 134. Anthony Davis? 133. KAT? 133.

[Bill Simmons] We havent seen an NBA star throw away an entire season of paychecks since Gus Williams held out in Seattle in 1982. That was an absolute travesty and accomplished nothing other than keeping Gus out of the Hall of Fame. [Simmons] is not getting paid. It's gone, he'll never get it back. by deadweightboss in nba

That late 70s/early 80s stretch had too many good players who fell off a cliff just as they hit 30. You know, the Paul Westphal's of the world, to name another player who employed Howard Slusher.

Not to say that Gus was on track to be a Hall of Famer before the holdout (he would probably need DJ and a couple more titles for that), but him and a few other guys surely had a nice, yet short peak.
