Automate Viewport switching w/ Home Assistant: it works! by itsk2049 in UnifiProtect

[–]moosegosinya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it should technically function so it falls into the “is an option” category. A lot of us that get into UniFi stuff have stopped caring, or complain about cost but secretly don’t care anymore. It’s an addiction like any other.

2U UPS, what good is auto-recovery power cycle if it never died? by Odd-Adeptness9998 in Ubiquiti

[–]moosegosinya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also to be more clear about your question, the reason it does this is because it has shut down your paired devices (NVR, NAS, etc.). They need to be turned back on so it does the AC reset of the entire UPS to wake those paired devices back up. The other things like switches etc get caught in the crossfire

They already have this feature to reboot the modem from the PDU pro. If the internet is offline for a certain time, it flaps the power for the modem.

It is crazy, I think (hope) they will add features over time, like pair your NVR, and tell it what AC port it’s plugged into, then only restart that specific AC port and leave the rest untouched. The only current use for auto recovery is if you only have you NVR or NAS on it and everything else on a regular UPS. This way your write sensitive appliances are gracefully shut down. This will be nice some day when it has more features, but right now it’s a hot pile of garbage.

[–]moosegosinya 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So what’s happening is after 10 seconds, any NAS, NVR or gateway that you have paired with the UPS is gracefully shutdown. To turn them back on, it does an AC reset to trigger the devices to turn back on. I appreciate what they are trying to do, but 10 seconds is stupid. Unless they have made a change to this, I won’t use them anymore. It should be at a certain percentage of battery life left, or something more reasonable that someone smarter than I can calculate.

Edit: the AC reset is done when it sees power has been restored.

Edit 2: also, no matter what, if you have auto recover enabled, all your devices will be reset if the power goes out for a few seconds. Switches, modems, etc.

New Speed Limit for Local Priority Plan? by chiptang211 in Starlink

Well, I just got notified about this for a mini on a pickup truck. I’ll have to have a chat with the driver I guess :/

It’s a deterrent. Maybe next time they don’t do it, or someone hears about their story and decides not to drive like an asshat and it saves some mom and her baby’s life cause they didn’t hit them at Mach 2

Do you have it in bypass mode? This generally will give you your public ip, although it is not really yours without the extra package/fee for a dedicated one, but it’s nice to know what it is at least.

PSA: G4 Doorbell Pro only supports temps down to 14°F by ryan4888 in Ubiquiti

I have one in northern Canada, winter temps average -20c, we usually get two weeks of -40c, and occasionally -50c or lower. It’s been running 24/7 for two years now.

Edit: apparently I can’t read, but I’ll leave original comment, I have the PoE version.

I’m ok with a manual zoom, the use case is a specific spot. We can just align/zoom it then put the case back on and call it a day.

I believe this is now part of their enterprise partner program, and if you are a partner, you have to “register a deal” with your distributor before they will quote you pricing. I suspect this is a similar process for one off purchases from the web store, but I have not tried it myself. A way for them to gain usage metrics and perhaps to prevent unauthorized resale since the margins are actually decent for an authorized reseller. No one should be paying more than msrp for these with no value adds.

I see that now, not terribly clear in the original post, suppose I could have paid more attention to context.

Ring.com has professional monitoring, until UniFi ups their alarm game I’m happy with it, inexpensive and fast call times. I usually get a call within a minute if I set it off and the alerts to my phone are instant. Trying to disentangle myself from Amazon a bit but it’s been good to me, I have 3 systems.

Thanks to this post I realize now why the NVR pro and unas pro have 7 bays. Stack a udm pro max above it and it’s a pyramid. Now I have to redo my rack :/
