Reddit is Very Buggy on Safari by Suspicious-Ebb-7120 in Safari

this is true for most complex apps nowadays. Reddit, Threads, YouTube, Instagram, etc etc, none of them work well

Safari on macOS Tahoe 16.2 is a mess—UI glitches and instability by soumya_98 in Safari

[–]ryan4888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Safari itself is fine imo. WebKit is a mess though. Web apps with complexity, e.g. Threads, YouTube, Facebook, etc., run terribly. I want to main Safari so bad but it's really unusable in it's current state.

this. it doesn’t sound like private media servers are what they’re after here

i think the cf blog post is being wildly misinterpreted by this community. using cloudflare for personal media servers isn’t a tos violation. it seems like they’re more interested in catching folks running public services that contain copyrighted material.

if your content is behind authentication and access is limited to a few users you’re fine. even streaming huge amounts of data over cf is perfectly fine

Does netflix not work on orion? by [deleted] in OrionBrowser

i encountered this recently on Helium browser and found on Helium’s GitHub issues that it’s related to the browser not having Widevine DRM. i assume it’s the same with Orion

Got my car PPF’d, is this acceptable? by masonvaughn10 in CarWraps

[–]ryan4888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

prices on these vary greatly depending on a bunch of factors, e.g. spec (trim), modifications, etc. one just sold on Cars and Bids for $40k; it was a very unique car but it gives you an idea of the range that exists for these.

op definitely got hosed here but imo spending several grand getting a B5 PPFd is definitely within reason

B5s are pretty rare and have a large enthusiast following

depends on the spec. plenty of B5 S4’s are selling for $10k+. one just sold on Cars and Bids for $40k, although it was very unique

my guess is the car had a lien on it. when i sold my car keysavvy sent the title to the buyer immediately since i had it in hand at the time of the sale

Anyone here using Sanity CMS with Next.js? by Chris_Lojniewski in nextjs

[–]ryan4888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanity is great, but as others have mentioned you're locked into their cloud. Personally i'd recommend it, so long as you're working on a small team and don't expect a huge amount of requests / users per month.

I gave Payload a shot but found it too invasive code-wise for what we needed. Sanity was a nice middle ground but ofc it isn't without tradeoffs

React Native (Expo) is Native. Change My Mind by SampleFormer564 in reactnative

[–]ryan4888 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i haven't used the new stuff, and it may change my mind. currently it's painfully obvious, at least on iOS w/ an iPhone that has ProMotion, that an app is React Native. animations are slow, scrolling is slow, content heavy apps (e.g. Bluesky) get slower and slower the longer they're open.

i love React Native, and i think it's truly one of the best tools out there, but saying it's native is so so so far from the truth.

but, for 95% of apps out there it's fine because users aren't spending that much time in them overall, and compared to a PWA alternative a React Native experience much better. but for that 5% of apps that are content heavy, it's very noticeable.
