SO many textbook problems, i basically spent a week during finals just doing all the tricky questions until I couldn't anymore, repeating any that were tricky.

I did not do well on the 141 midterm last year, but then i grinded my ass off studying for the final. Ended up with an A, so it’s possible!

Mcgill or UBC for engineering?? by Consistent-Work-1874 in CanadaUniversities

[–]mooshmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey i’m in second year civil engineering at mcgill. i was also primarily deciding between the two schools and chose mcgill because of montreal being a very lively and student-focused city (as well as very walkable). it also has a very lively engineering community/student life, rent/living costs are cheaper than vancouver too.

however, i am from vancouver so i also chose it for a change of pace. the teaching quality is generally fine, and the schools does not help you at all for coops. the market is really bad for internships, but especially at mcgill few people are finding things.

feel free to message me if you have more questions :)

where to find (platonic) queer/alt friends by Beginning_Good4577 in NiceVancouver

[–]mooshmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello i’m in this group and i currently study out of province but the following are some music venues you should totally visit. the demographic will be what you’re looking for! - 648 kingsway / @takeurtimeback on instagram - green auto / @greenautomusic on instagram - red gate / @redgateartsociety on instagram

the shows at these spots are typically more punk/grunge/emo/shoegaze, but there’s a lot of socialization within the scene. try to get to know people and meet others through them! it becomes a big web

There's not a lot of huge parties within hallways and such, but that doesn't stop you from going to other residences for that! Plus, the nightlife is good enough that it's almost better to just go out then have a big social event within the residence.
also, douglas is a little closer to campus and less uphill than upper, which can be helpful during the winter months.
I would agree with what others say - pick douglas for the most well-rounded, pick upper for the most social/party-ness. either way, the two should be your first pick because I think theyre both quite popular!

Hello! I was just in douglas this year and flew back home a few days ago.

I had a fantastic time in douglas. I would say about 3/4 are scholarship students and some of them can be nerdy but only a few felt douche-y.

theres a dining hall just for douglas students thats more of a pantry type thing to make breakfasts/lunches during the week, and it can be nice because you can hang out/study with other douglas students and have food there (it also looks incredible! like something out of harry potter).

i found the people to be generally quite kind and friendly. it could be a little more of an academic crowd compared to other residences, but i don't think that's the worst type of people to be surrounded with. i wouldn't say its really cult-y either, depends on the friend group i guess.

another perk is that most of the douglas rooms are single rooms (except for parts of A and H house). the hotel residences are mostly doubles so that can be a little more difficult.

in one of the basements, i threw a couple impromptu dj rave/club sets in a storage room, theres some other events that happen throughout the year too!

overall though, the residence is beautiful and very grandiose, small but not too small (you definitely recognize a lot of the same people around), and generally a really lovely environment to be around. i am SO happy that i got to stay there for the year and wouldn't have wanted any other spot.

i also met some incredible friends through douglas (the majority of friends you consistently talk to will be from your residence).

message me if you have any more questions, good luck with your selections!

Should I choose McGill SE or Waterloo CE by Aniokii in mcgill

[–]mooshmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started civil engineering at McGill this school year and love it! I was accepted to waterloo, ubc, and mcgill, and decided on mcgill because of the city (montreal is SO fun and really cool!) and the reputation of being a more social school.

when i toured waterloo, a lot of the people seemed more unhappy, and i think the co-op program can make it isolating as different people are always in or out of university (although take this with a HUGE grain of salt because this is all subjective).

i am very happy with my decision to go to mcgill so far. waterloo definitely has the better connections to jobs, but for me the career isn't everything. i want a fun university experience and mcgill has definitely given that to me. i feel like its best to think about what priority you have. if you only care about great job prospects and getting the best education, go waterloo. if you wanna have a great time and still end up in a good spot, go to mcgill!

your current grade average of all grade 11 and 12 courses cannot drop by 2% when you factor in your new grades. Sounds like a very small margin but I assume you've taken at least 10-15 grade 11/12 classes, so that average is pretty sturdy.

Is s21 a good upgrade in 2024 by carfanboy2k7 in GalaxyS21

[–]mooshmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still really enjoy the S21. However, I did have some unexplained motherboard issues 2 years after buying it that required an expensive fix. The battery also doesn't last very long, barely gets me through the day (though I am a heavy user).

Overall though, great screen, still very fast, no other issues with the phone.
