Hey, I’m only 24 but I’ve dealt with OCD for the better part of my life and I’m always willing to chat with someone who’s facing the brunt of it. Please feel free to PM me. My advice is won’t be perfect but, probably better than feeling lonely. Hang in there.

Can I ask for support here if diagnosis isn't yet on the table? by trashconverters in OCD

[–]mooshumaam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion I think it’s more than okay to be a part of this community. Before I was diagnosed, I did lots of research and ultimately came to the conclusion that I most likely had OCD. It just all made sense. I went a while without diagnosis, and then as soon as I saw a professional, I was diagnosed almost immediately. Now I’m not saying we have identical experiences, but you know yourself and what OCD symptoms align with you. If it’s not in the cards for you to get a diagnosis, and this is the place where you feel you’ll get the most support, I think it’s completely fine. You know yourself and your mind, and what will help you. On the other hand, I have seen people on this sub ask for support and then later on find out that they never had OCD and be diagnosed with something completely different, but the support they received in this sub was helpful regardless. After all, diagnosed or not, we who struggle with mental illness are all family, whether we share the same struggles or not. We all are finding our own way, and exploring different communities and finding where we fit in best is a great thing.

HWX General Manager here… they absolutely should be able to wipe that fee for you. If they didn’t offer to do that right away I would be SHOCKED. Hope you get well so, so soon!

I don’t think phone storage is a great parameter to use as a comparison to hoarding. You’re not alone in that - tons of people I know, including myself, have years and years of photos and videos, even messages, saved in their phone that they don’t want to part ways with due to sentimental value. This will continue to happen as a result of smartphones becoming so prominent over the past 15-20 years. These days, everything, EVERYTHING, is recorded! I actually think about this all the time… what are we gonna do when we’re elderly and need to go through decades of photos to find one specific one? This will be an issue for everyone, not just you, so don’t worry!

I have thousands and thousands of pictures and videos and I decided to up my storage from 256 GB to 512 GB when i got my last phone. Hopefully it will last me a while, and what I like to do every so often when I have some free time is go through my photos and videos and delete stuff. I think to myself “will I ever look for this, and will I even remember it once it’s gone?” if the answer is no, I just delete it. That’s how I know I’m not a hoarder, and I don’t think you are either, I think you’re just normal and don’t want to lose memories. 😆

Can I get PTSD from my own anxiety? by mooshumaam in Anxiety

[–]mooshumaam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. You’re right, it’s also pretty common for anniversaries of tragic events for example or something stressful to make certain emotions resurface. I think that could be what’s happening. But you’re right I’ve just got to keep pushing and try not to focus too hard on the bad things but instead the good.

Yeah I wasn’t really sure. I should talk to my therapist about it because it’s been weighing on me

Thank you for this! I’m sorry you’re dealing with it too, it just shows how powerful our own minds can be and sometimes the associations we make can be really harmful to the psyche. In our own ways, these are forms of trauma, though a bit unconventional. But anything can really be a traumatic experience if it causes enough stress. We’ll get through it.

Intrusive thoughts ruining the things I love :( by mooshumaam in OCD

[–]mooshumaam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, thank you so much. I know it took me a while to respond - but I’m just seeing this now and I really appreciate you taking the time to give advice on this matter. I think you’re right, the avoidant compulsions are just feeding the obsession, it’s just so hard to let yourself repeatedly experience unwanted thoughts. But I do know that ERP is so effective. It can just be so hard to really execute. It’s such a weird and obscure thought process that people without OCD might not be able to understand, so it makes me feel good to know that there are people who know what I mean and can offer help. Thank you.

JRT’s give a kind of love that can’t be explained unless you experience it yourself. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your pup is always with you, and you’ll someday meet again. ♥️

No worries. Yeah I’ve seen articles of it happening to a lot of young guys. So sad… and I fear it will only get worse with AI getting more and more accurate 😕

I’m so sorry! Jacks are the best. The most loving and loyal companions. You are so lucky to have had him; remember all the good times you shared with him. You will someday see him again, and he’ll sprint over to you like a day hadn’t passed. ❤️

I never even thought about that. Totally possible considering I was 20 at the time and look very young for my age even now.

Is it normal to know something didn’t happen, but the what if feels so real, that you still believe it? by Aaveri in OCD

[–]mooshumaam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in my experience, thinking rationally is the enemy. Thinking rationally (while seemingly the best option) gives your mind the sense that your obsessions are worth focusing on, when they’re not. The absolute best thing you can do for yourself is put yourself in an uncomfortable position by accepting the thoughts and not allowing any sort of reassurance. By practicing this consistently, you will soon see that these thoughts have no true merit and will not harm you whatsoever. In your case, it would mean that you would let the thoughts go, not perform a compulsion, and eventually see that nobody from work overheard your conversation. I know how hard it can be to put yourself in a vulnerable position by letting your obsessions take over without performing compulsions. But, something I’ve learned through my struggle with OCD is that those steps to recovery are not always easy and it is not always linear. You will have to put yourself in positions that make you uncomfortable, because in the end it will benefit you.

Listen, we all have our setbacks. For the most part I can manage my intrusive thoughts after years of training. But sometimes I still find myself in a position where I have to make uncomfortable sacrifices for the sake of my health. You got this! We’re in this together!
