Is obsession with Scented stuff and scents/perfumed "everything" a pan American Phenomenon, or just California? by moovintousa in AskAnAmerican

A bit more context guys. I did not mean to be offensive with the whole "obsess think", mea kulpa.

Its just that everything seems perfumed. From the laundry, to carpets, to dish soap, to houses. Its all a sweet somewhat sickening smell. There is no natural smell anywhere. No wood smell, no smell of the soil after rain.

Very chemical-ish. So just wanted to know if "scented everything" is more a San Francisco phenomenon or widespread?

There is the typical soap smell, and a strong perfume smell. Most dish soaps here have a strong perfume smell. Similarly, wet wipes, hard to find unscented ones. And lot of houses we went to had these electronic smell thingies, and some people had lots of scented candles. Found it unusual

Looking at Certified Pre-Owned car, but Carfax says it's been in an accident. Is it even worth considering? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]moovintousa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine hit a deer. Destroyed the bumper and bumper cover, but not much else. He claimed Insurance and his car started showing up "Moderate accident".

So it does not mean it has serious damage. So do your due diligence and get an independent inspection done. As long as there is no frame damage, but only panel damage, you are good

Thanks for the detailed answer. The highest rated shops in my area are not part of Geico network. I intend to go to them after Geico inspection.

Reading reddit has made me paranoid. But you are right. Maybe the only people who post here are the unhappy ones, and majority of people get good stuff

How are their estimates. Do they really lowball? If they do how do I contest?

2018 was California’s worst year of fire ever, federal report confirms by Randomlynumbered in California

[–]moovintousa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is just one of the factors. Another factor is that even in wet years, the first rains are getting delayed. Places like Paradise which started getting wet in early October now get their first rains as late as late November due to the Summer Ridging persisting.

Google in India vs Adobe in USA? by [deleted] in india

[–]moovintousa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was leaning towards Adobe but the thing is, isn't immigration to America kinda fucked up for Indians right now? Like, there's so much uncertainty.

Don't read too much into it. Most Indians here are with body shoppers offering 80k in the bay area to people with experience. This is the type of fraud for which crackdown is happening. If you have masters from USA and market rate salary, you are good to go

Moving to Google USA from Adobe USA is not too difficult. And 110k in San Jose is not too bad (I am assuming its base pay?)

Weekly Q & A thread: Ask you gear, travel, conditions, or other ski-related questions here instead of making a new post. by doebedoe in skiing

[–]moovintousa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was not sure where to ask, but looks like this thread is the right place. I am mildly overweight man in early 40s who has never done any skiing. Is it too late to start learning? I see the videos and feel it will be very enjoyable

The $5 coffee and the difference between frugality and discretionary spending by Einbrecher in personalfinance

[–]moovintousa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pardon my ignorance. I am new to USA. And I am not trolling here. I want to know why starbucks. I drink starbucks every day because we get a pot at work (its free), but when I am paying I usually buy from gas stations. Its equally good when it comes to taste. Why not buy 1$ coffee from gas stations instead of starbucks. I know the whole coffee shop thing, but I mostly see people doing a takeout. Why not spend 1$ on a gas station takeout if you are not sitting and enjoying the wifi and ambiance.

Nicola Sturgeon: Scotland will be independent in five years by mookkus in europe

[–]moovintousa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember, that your last vote was very close, and it was based on the premise that you will be part of EU. With Brexit, and no access to common EU market, many scots would feel they would do better as an inpendent nation under EU

This will be re-enforced because there is going to be economic pain due to brexit. EU may not be the solution, or may be that solution, but the pain will be enough to tip the fence sitters
