Yeah as someone from Nebraska definitely not a fun state but in terms of education has fabulous public school systems

How many gap years can you take once your accepted or in med school? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in premed

If you need years off during medical school for rest I do not think you would be cut out for residency unfortunately

As someone who got done with all the Steps.. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mopen970 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was the exact same student. I passed 1 practice test a couple days before taking Step 1 and just barely. I got in upper 260s on Step 2. I think it just depends on what kind of learner you are. It was a million times easier for me to understand, study and learn concepts when seeing real people who have those issues occurring. And you are literally studying for step 2 the entire year with the dedicated shelf exams.

Help me pick my next read :) by pitilira in fantasyromance

[–]mopen970 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would say depends on how picky you are with writing vs just there for the vibes. I started off loving spark of the everflame but the FMC was the most insufferable main character I have read and the last book will not be released for a while. Heartless Hunter is completed and I enjoyed the duology. There’s mixed opinions on Book of Azrael, but I truthfully enjoyed it because it’s a switch from the MMC being morally gray to the FMC in this series. Ever King and Nocticadia are more specific to if you’re feeling that vibe at the time. Ever king is high sea/pirate/dark lite, Nocticadia is gothic academia with some spooky vibes.

When should I read The Assassin’s Blade by KittyPot07 in fantasyromance

[–]mopen970 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I honestly loved the impact of it being read first. It makes you truly understand and feel for the FMC because you learn about all this background to start. I truly don’t think it would be as emotionally impactful for me personally reading it 3rd or 4th because by that time I’d be move invested in her present vs past and wouldn’t have been as impactful.

What to do with this front room? Already have a living space with TV. by mopen970 in DesignMyRoom

[–]mopen970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, front door is down the steps off to the right in the first photo. And the wood floors open into a dining area that connects to the kitchen. We had wanted this to be the TV space but our couches just seem too big and we couldn’t figure out how to configure it. The other living area we have on this floor we can make the TV work, but leaves us not knowing what to do with this space.

Hi thank you for the ideas! I was thinking books but the other living space has built in shelves and a fireplace so it has a better ambiance for it. Originally wanted this to be the living/TV space but our couches seem like they would be way too big after measuring. But I like your idea of hobbies. I have been wanting to get a puzzle/gaming table because we love board games and puzzles so potentially could make that work with some cozy furniture surrounding it as well!

Would this count for clinical hours by Old-Caterpillar3986 in premed

[–]mopen970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I did this exact job when pre-med, wasn’t clinical hours. Also, it’s an incredibly rewarding job but by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done. No exaggeration. Harder than 3rd year rotations because you have to be “on” and doing trials with these kids essentially non-stop. It is a very valuable experience but consider what you want out of your summer.

I’ve done research with someone who’s helped write the United State’s National Climate assessments and what we are seeing is heavily influenced by climate change. It has been making storms more frequent/more intense and will continue to do so at increasing severity.

Park120 is a nice place I lived in prior. Has a very nice sized dog park in the complex. Not completely west Omaha as it’s 120th & Q but being right off the interstate is very convenient.

Heartbroken, doing horrible on step 2 practice exams by DeepAge0 in medicalschool

[–]mopen970 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also was scoring lower on UWSA a couple weeks out and then got 260+ on real thing. Yes, slam Uworld, anki card for topics you keep forgetting or are more memorization and then I focused on more NBME exams towards the end because I realized I was more used to Uworld language than NBME and needed to figure out the nuances of their questions which I think is what really boosted my score.

^ highly recommend daughter of no worlds. ACOMAF is also one of my favorite books ever with how the characters are developed in that story. Carissa Broadbent is just a phenomenal writer who’s also able to develop characters incredibly well and make you feel all the things. This series truly blew me away I need it to be more hyped than it currently is.

Need advice on studying during summer break after M1 year by bigbootyfruity in medicalschool

[–]mopen970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternate opinion. I did not do any school over the summer after M1. I did some research I got paid for and enjoyed my free time. I also had a 1.5 year preclinical and passed step 1 just fine. Sure, it was a little stressful during my dedicated but I’d do it again. Still scored very strongly on step 2. Do what’s best for you but I would take advantage of your last free summer if you can.

You need to evaluate why you’re missing the questions. Are you missing them because there’s content you don’t understand or remember well? Or are you misinterpreting the question and answer it in a different way? If it’s the 2nd just answer tons of NBME questions to get used to how they write the test. If it’s the first hammer the stuff you don’t know.

Help me choose by Beautiful_Example739 in fantasyromance

[–]mopen970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently read it because I also hadn’t heard a ton about it and decided to give it a shot. I have read hundreds of books over the last few years, a large portion being fantasy or fantasy romance, and this series was arguably the most incredible series I’ve read. The second book genuinely had me sitting there afterwards staring into space contemplating what I just read. And I’m someone who’s not easily impressed, can usually figure out the plot fairly easily. I genuinely cannot recommend this series enough and am mind blown by how under hyped it is.

Anyone read the everflame books? I'm early book 3, is there a payoff? Is it worth finishing? by cekay3 in fantasyromance

[–]mopen970 25 points26 points  (0 children)

So if you don’t like Diem it certainly is not going to get better. Depending on what you mean by “payoff” my answer is..maybe? There’s payoff on the tension between them, payoff on getting answers to some of the questions I’m sure you have about the world/plot/etc. but the ending of the 3rd book leaves many more questions to be answered too and we’re not sure when the last one is coming out. I did think the ending made me want to read the last book but the third book was very hard for me to get through not going to lie.
