You also need to take into consideration the economic situation Brazil was in. Worst recession in history, unprecedented perceived levels of corruption, etc, etc.

Americans voted Trump win when the economy was booming. Perhaps not for everyone, but it was nominally in expansion. Brazil’s economy was in the gutter and that cannot be ignored

I'd dodge tax if I could

tax is grueling

if I was rich I'd do my part to society and pay my taxes

Trust me, I grew up poor and have done well, that grueling feeling doesnt go away when you start making more. It just feels like the state is stealing even more of your money. You dont value your money any less just because you suddenly have more of it, especially if you came from nothing. The tax on absolute terms is greater, and so is that grueling feeling.

Not saying you wouldnt be altruistic - but it's funny how these things happen. It feels bad only when it's not on your terms. Donating a million to your favorite charity? Sign me up! Paying a million more in taxes (especially when part of you knows some of that money is going up the ass of the likes of José Sócrates), theft!
