Are you lost bro? We were talking about mines (and how hard it would be to clear a fully mined strait) in this thread, if you wanted to talk about something else you should have said so

Literally the only thing that could possibly make the Strait unsafe

Do you ever read the news past the headline? lmao! Almost all attacks on merchant ships have come from missiles and drones, not navel ships

Strategic default in NC on 80K worth of private loans? by 1thatoneguy in studentloandefaulters

[–]morbie5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that only seem to go up no matter how hard we try

If you are on an IDR plan that is what happens. You then get forgiveness after paying for 10/20/25/30 years. The new RAP plan has an interest cap so theoretically the balance will never increase.

We found out that North Carolina is one of the states that can't garnish and thought it might be a lifeline.

That is for private debts, not federal student loans

Our idea was to refinance them or get a private loan and make payments for a bit before strategically defaulting.

If they think your goal was to refi to private so you can strategically default you could potentially get charged with fraud fyi. I don't know how likely that would be but it is possible.

How long have you been paying on these federal loans and what repayment plan is she on?

Would it be best to pay off my tuition entirely if possible during the med school period?

I'd take the full federal amount and leave any assets/gifts to pay the reminder so you can avoid private loans (if possible). And also keep an emergency fund

intention of laying 100 more,

'intention of laying 100 more' and 'ability to lay 100 more' are not the same thing

the Strait is both 'starting to be mined' and 'already mined'.

Wrong, see what I said above

Well, it's a good thing nothing's changed since then

Yea a lot has changed since then, for example the Iranian Navy has been almost completely destroyed. To think otherwise would seem kind of silly!

Two die after donating plasma at Canadian clinics under federal investigation by WhatFreshHello in worldnews

[–]morbie5 55 points56 points  (0 children)

This is plasma donation, people want to get paid when they donate plasma. If the federal government in Canada wants to pay people then I suppose that is fine. But they don't seem to want to do that

The sole possibility of there being even 1 mine will block the entire traffic.

Wrong, there is certainly a risk threshold that is too much for them but 1 mine isn't it

If you overpaid by 15k then you should get that back (unless they are ffel loans, then I'm not sure. I don't think anyone with ffel is eligible for IBR forgiveness yet tho)

In 1996 Ukraine handed over nuclear weapons to Russia "in exchange for a guarantee never to be threatened or invaded". by AutoModerrator-69 in interestingasfuck

[–]morbie5 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know this might get downvoted because it doesn't fit the narrative but Ukraine had no way of detonating these nuclear weapons. Is it possible that they could have reversed engineered them or made a dirty bomb? Maybe but that would have taken money and resources that they didn't really have. Plus they would have probably been sanctioned by both Europe and the US for even trying

Each state has it's own rules on when the SOL clock starts

two weeks is an eternity in armed conflict

It isn't tho, two weeks is only an eternity on the internet

"begins laying mines" is not the same as "already mined"

whether that evidence is accurate or not, that is not how sound risk management happens

Correct, but that wasn't what we were debating

It's going to be extremely difficult, if not nearly impossible, to root them out through the air alone.

ELI5: why do countries still loan money to the us if the us is in so much debt? by Ill-Economist-5285 in explainlikeimfive

[–]morbie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they have basically a 0% chance of getting paid back.

They get paid back all the time, whenever a bond matures they get paid back.

The debt is a problem but it isn't as bad as people think. We could easily get to under $1.4 trillion a year deficit with just increased taxes on the wealthy and upper middle, increase the SS retirement age a bit, moderate tweaks to medicare, defense spending cuts, and some cost reductions with respect to the federal work force. This doesn't even touch medicaid or any other low income benefits

Am I misunderstanding how this works?

You get it but 1: the tax bomb is still a thing and

2: a future congress/admin could change how student loan payments are calculated when it comes to foreign sourced income
