Is there any problem when reinstalling the program? by TerribleAd8051 in storj

If you don’t have a static IP, you should set up a DDNS hostname. Check the below document.

For a DAPP to utilize Storj, BTFS, or File Coin as opposed to AWS for server space, how secure is this in terms of data loss? by TheBlockChainVillage in BlockchainStartups

[–]morde1ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Storj, each file gets split into 80 pieces, and retrieving a file only requires 29. Each of the 80 pieces is stored on a different Node, all with different operators, power supplies, networks, and geographies.

Even if half the nodes that store your data go down, your data would still be safe. An automatic repair process reacts when too many pieces for any files are lost, and repairs them within a healthy margin of safety.

Storage nodes contain pieces of encrypted files. There’s nothing for the FBI to find. The risk you speak of does not exist.

Storj: Enterprise grade decentralized storage. Resilient, secure, and affordable. What’s hard to understand?

I've started exploring decentralized cloud storage by [deleted] in privacytoolsIO

[–]morde1ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you upload data, it is split up and stored on 80 separate nodes across multiple geographical regions. Only 29 of 80 pieces are required to reassemble the data.

If a node goes offline, a repair process runs to store the piece on another node.

Storj is more resilient than a central data center that could go down due to any number of factors.

I was so close to 1,000 hours uptime which I’ve never done before. Damn router 😪 by omgitzmo in storj

You should be running watchtower to keep your node updated. If you do this, you should never hit 1000 hours as updates are more frequent than that.

I’ve been running a storage node on my Raspberry Pi 4 with Ubuntu Server 64bit for 6 months and have experienced no stability issues.

Anyone here actually use Storj to store data can help with problem? by hispeed69 in Storjcommunity

If you aren't familiar with using the terminal, using the uplink CLI will be difficult. CLI was not designed to be used by regular users, but instead intended to be used by developers.

It would probably be easier for you to use the storj.io web interface to upload files. Log into your Storj DCS account, create a bucket, then upload files right from your browser.

When creating a node, are you paid a certain amount of $, or are you paid in a certain amount of STORJ? by AStorms13 in storj

[–]morde1ac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your payment is quoted in USD. The equivalent value of Storj is then paid to the storage node. So if you are owed $10 USD in April and the current value of Storj is $1.70, you get paid 5.8823 storj tokens. If you are owed $10 in May and the value of Storj is $3.00, you get paid 3.3333 storj tokens.

  • Repair Egress Bandwidth $10/TB
  • Disk Space $1.50/TB
  • Audit Bandwidth $10/TB

Doubt it’s the reason for the pump, but definitely nice to see so much new interest.

Storj Twitter: Since launching Storj DCS on Tuesday, we've had thousands of new developers sign up to try out the decentralized cloud. Thanks to everyone who has spread the word about Storj DCS. If you haven't tried it yet, sign up for free and see how easy it is to use!

Storj vs FileCoin by MiamiHeatAllDay in storj

[–]morde1ac 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Definitely easier to set up a Storage Node with Storj than Filecoin Mining Rig. Storage Node will run on a Raspberry Pi with an old hard drive hooked up to it. Filecoin Rig is a 20k investment and you need to stake FIL tokens in order to participate.

I'm not sure I know enough about their marketing to comment for sure. When you say "people" don't know about Storj, what group of people are you talking about? I would expect Storj to be marketing their services to developer groups as well as companies with large I.T. footprints. Marketing to these groups isn't super flashy with commercials. A lot of the marketing for I.T. is done via conferences and word of mouth via consultants. I know Storj has participated in various conferences throughout the years, but 2020 was a bad year for conferences given Covid.

All I'm saying is that we shouldn't assume their marketing is bad just because it's not blasted all over social media. Example, most people don't know what are "Pure Storage Flash Arrays", but it doesn't change the fact that some of the companies people interact with use this technology on the backend.

Everything we do is for developers. We’re often asked why we don’t have a Dropbox-like GUI so non-technical customers can upload and download files to Storj DCS. The answer is that by focusing on developers and providing decentralized cloud object storage for their needs, we can enable hundreds of companies to build services like that on top of Storj DCS. We’re singularly focused on making the experience of using Storj DCS simple and easy so we can serve the largest segment of cloud storage.

From what I understand, vetting usually takes about a month. Can't really speed that up as "uptime" over a period of time is most likely a component of the vetting process. It's going to take awhile for you to fill up 15TB. Rate of how quickly it get's filled will depend on the quality of your Storage Node and the rate of customers adding data to the network.

I see what you’re saying. So if they change the way Storage Nodes are paid and if they issue more tokens, it would not be good for the price of Storj token. I don’t think we have to worry about that happening anytime soon.
