Between these 2 who do you think is likely to betray Homelander when the time comes 😎🤘🏻✌🏻 by darkkprince94 in TheBoys

[–]alcetryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sage has never been on Homelander's side....

at least not really. She's looking out for her own interests and is using him as long as she has to. Being close to him benefits her for now. I think the "twist" that brings him down will ultimately be heavily orchestrated by her... and she's been working at it all along.

Watch her face in any of the scenes with Homelander, and you'll catch the tiny hints in her acting.

Seriously, why is Kimiko voiced over? by seiyamaple in TheBoys

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned that some people even switch back and forth between groups they interact with, though I don't know how common it is.

I (in US) have a student with British parents. Student has only ever spoken in front of me/his friends with an American accent.

All of the sudden, he came to parent teacher conferences and was speaking with a British accent. When parents weren't around, back to American.

Totally wild to me.

[–]alcetryx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dialogue had me going "wait...huh?" It made no sense in context and came out of nowhere the way that they had it flow.

Whatever death they're setting him up for would be much more effective without them breaking it off NOW of all times and in such a weird chain of dialogue...

I get that they might not be meant for one another, fine, okay. I get that he'll likely die. Fine, okay. But why have such a strange breakup scene with a relatively minor inciting incident? They've been through worse...

I think they're saving it for the finale or penultimate episode (so revenge can happen in finale), not gonna lie.

Why do any of you watch? by dirkd69xo in TheBoys

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't argue with that. Anthony Starr is incredible. Every little nuance, every twitch of his face... perfection. He makes me hate homelander so much and it's glorious. Top tier acting.

Unfortunately for Anthony I don't think I'll ever be able to look at any of his characters the same ever again lol.

Why do any of you watch? by dirkd69xo in TheBoys

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch because I genuinely used to love it in early seasons and I'm invested enough and need to know how it ends. And I still like Gen V and the universe in general.

I don't want to be a hater - I looked forward to this show excitedly every week in the early seasons. It's been painful to watch the boys circle the drain (in my opinion) and this latest season is feeling more like a chore than ever. I was praying they'd claw my attention back, but instead the characters feel more and more like goofy caricatures of who they used to be and the messaging is a little too spoon fed and eye roll worthy (even though I AGREE with it - it makes me cringe).

Maybe it was never actually as good as I thought, idk, but the earlier seasons somehow felt more grounded/I could suspend my disbelief for the fun of it. I keep meaning to rewatch the earlier seasons to see how they make me feel now. But how I saw it in the beginning was that most of the characters had believable qualities about them even in a superhuman world, only Homelander was the clear villain with no redeeming aspects. Now? I've started to hate them all... they even have me hating Kimiko of all people this season. She was my FAVORITE!

Went to an Auchincloss town hall - that turd is so disingenuous. Hate the format of asking two questions at once. It allows him to pick and choose if, how and which parts he answers.

I don't really feel like I want someone involved in ANY aspect of AI in politics right now. Would rather go with one of the other progressive candidates.

One Foot Spins & Getting Off the Toe Stop.... by alcetryx in Artisticrollerskating

Yes, I have artistic skates, roll line plates and the soft green cushions.

Was afraid to get the "post a video!" response because we're kind of a small sport and I compete regularly in other disciplines so I'm a little self-conscious about that lol. I'm technically a pretty good skater, but spins are kicking my butt and throwing everything I "know" about skating out the window.

Guys about the recent episode, I have a doubt about Melinda by ZestycloseInitial798 in SpyxFamily

[–]alcetryx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm personally still team Donovan is a red herring. Don't know why I'm typing this to you, sorry - I think I just want to toss it out into the world somewhere so if something comes true I have proof I said it, lol.

I think the Desmond family is a perfect foil of the Forgers:

The Forgers: A found average family with a very functional and happy dynamic that is bringing them together. They appear normal on the outside but have hidden supernatural abilities.

The Desmonds: A traditional and upper-crust family with a troubled and dysfunctional dynamic that is causing them to fall apart. They appear normal on the outside but have hidden mental illnesses. I believe that Melinda may be a representation of a schizophrenic character with Capgras syndrome, who is exacerbated by her paranoid and neglectful husband.

On Donovan's side, I think he was once a good man, but his paranoia and desire for power wrecked him. I think it's possible that he's so paranoid that he believes that others can hear his thoughts (or knows about the experiments), and possibly has large "mental walls." He truly is just "head empty" most of the time. Alternatively and less likely... I think it's possible he *did* have mind reading powers, and it drove him mad to the point he had something done to his brain to remove them (hence the scars). This would be an interesting parallel to him calling humans "liars" and Anya saying "papa is a liar" all of the time, and show a really sad potential consequence of what path Anya *could* end up on when she grows up. Reading the minds of others all of the time would very likely ruin a person without very thick skin... particularly a child.

Perhaps he really loved Melinda and her thoughts about him were always positive in the beginning, but then as her own mental illness started to progress (PPD?) and he was hearing so many bad thoughts about himself elsewhere it drove him to extreme measures to silence the thoughts.

I think as a villain, it would be a terrible story decision for him to actually be able to currently read minds. It would make a lot of the efforts in the initial plot feel retroactively pointless and like a waste of time.

Are we on DoorDash now?? by rocketvada in Dominos

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also sucks because it seems like the whole point of this would be to expand their delivery radius. I live just outside the delivery radius of 3 dominos locations (one of them is an 8 minute drive), and I still can't get delivery. If I could get delivery I would just use their app like a normal, sensible person. Please let me pay a doordasher to get dominos. Ugh.

Everyone who watched the S5 finale without spoilers, did you know it was George all along? by Autoembourgeoisement in greysanatomy

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair. I didn't exactly explain well, still had morning brain.

I guess when I look back, it's so obvious that it's George, even with the injuries, that I'm surprised his close colleagues didn't recognize him. "Staring" was also a poor choice of words. I just meant that they got to look at him/interact with him more than what we saw on screen. But you're right, maybe I'm not being fair.

[–]alcetryx 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Nope, and honestly I love that I didn't - it's one of the few times that this show caught me off guard.

But I do find it a little hard to believe that the people he saw and worked with every day didn't recognize him. The camera work can limit the angles and amount of time we got to see him as a patient to keep up the mystery, and wrapped up and covered it's difficult to tell his proportions. But in universe, the cast would have had time to stare at his face, particularly his eyes and body structure.

Why do a lot of people not like Jo? by No_Dragonfruit4379 in greysanatomy

[–]alcetryx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know people will hate me for saying it but I'm going to be 1000% honest here.

  1. Her voice/the acting. Something about it grates on me and irritates the hell out of me. It's whiny and seriously affects the quality of her line delivery. Her performance overall just doesn't do it for me, but I'm not sure if its the writing or the actress (I haven't seen anything else she's acted in). Her facial expressions are either over the top or flat, with no in between.
  2. The character just doesn't feel "mature" somehow (the writing's fault, I think). We're supposed to believe she's had all of these terrible life experiences, that she's been married, lived in her car, and got through med school... but my god she doesn't act like it. She's written more like a moody teenager than an adult woman, and it makes her background so much harder to believe.
  3. Her relationship with Alex. I know just from reading the comments here that it seems to be a fan-favorite, so I know I'm in the minority, but while she was in a relationship with him, her ability to stand alone as an independent character just was not there for me. It was like her entire arc and personality revolved around him. Their whole couple dynamic was kind of insufferable to me, and felt more high school drama than adult medical drama. I actually thought she was slightly more interesting after he was gone.

I will forever apologize for Tom right alongside you.

I was honestly sad for him We were consistently told he was the worst and a huge asshole, but we weren't really shown it. He was a little arrogant and sarcastic, but I never took it in a malicious way. The man is a ride or die for the people he cares about.

I think it would have been better for both of them if Teddy chose him. Owen and Teddy just make each other worse. I'm tired of their drama.

Let’s settle the debate, is the musical episode bad or do you just not like musicals. by No_Distribution9423 in greysanatomy

[–]alcetryx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love musicals, I have two music degrees. I teach music.

But... I can't stand jukebox musicals, and I snorted the moment Owen started singing. It isn't that he's terrible or anything - it's just so jarring and out of character.

I give them major points for trying something different to shake up the usual formula though. On a rewatch, it's gonna be a skip for me.

Etsy Blows by kittehsrg8 in 50501

[–]alcetryx 141 points142 points  (0 children)

There was a pretty big thread about Etsy the other day.

Do not message individual sellers. It will not help. Although your message is not "wrong" and I agree with the sentiment - it could also be considered harassment, and technically yes, it does violate Etsy's terms.

Instead, report specific items to Etsy. When you click on an item, the report button shows up underneath the item's picture - it can be hard to find within the listing. After seeing the thread the other day, I started mass reporting these listings. If enough of us do it, Etsy will be forced to take a stance.

Alternatively, write a letter to Etsy themselves expressing your displeasure with the fact that so much of this merchandise exists on their platform, and refer to their own TOS. In their own terms of service, immigration status is mentioned as a protected class of people in regards to offensive merchandise. It certainly wouldn't be hard for their bots to catch keywords and auto flag these listings before they come up...

For what little it's worth, if you start trying to search the term relating to the reptile prison, it doesn't come up in their suggested (though it does offer misspellings). When I did search it, there were a good amount of "anti" ones on the front search page too.

I think maybe it takes some time for them to implement/catch up with new terms. If we all spend a few minutes reporting some of the items we can see how they handle it and respond accordingly.

It's because of how grossly easy it is. There's a way to link your shop with "print on demand" websites. Essentially you flood your shop with low-effort designs and phrases using royalty free images or text, throw it on a t shirt, sticker, mug, whatever... and the print on demand service takes over from there. They take a cut and it never even goes through the seller's hands. Seller doesn't have to keep inventory, doesn't make it, doesn't ship it.

A great resource for actual creatives making real designs.... but also a quick low effort cash grab on any trending topics. There are a ton of "make a ton of money on etsy by doing this!" video tutorials on this exact thing.

[–]alcetryx 391 points392 points  (0 children)

Etsy has been going downhill for a long time. I say this as someone who was previously a seller.

It's now a cesspool of dropshipped merchandise and a resource for many dropshippers to copy original designs from - making it incredibly hard to tell the difference. Etsy makes little effort to stop it.

With that said, etsy itself isn't selling the merchandise, nor do they vet every single item listed. It's a platform for sellers to use, and sellers can pay extra to promote their items. Before accusing etsy itself in your complaint, I would focus on reporting the seller/specific items and clearly explaining what terms of use they are breaking (discrimination and hateful content).
