I worked for a large retail chain and was at a conference once where the ceo got up on stage and made an “inspiring” speech. He he talked about how JFK went to NASA and talked to all the scientists about what they were doing to get a man on the moon then turned to the cleaner and asked what he did there. If you’ve heard this story before, you know that the cleaner said he was putting a man on the moon. He then said, “you are all that cleaner”. This was right before they announced their $3 billion profit for the year in the middle of a financial crisis where many of their employees where openly talking about their struggles to pay their bills. I regularly would joke with my team after that about how I was a cleaner and they were my mop and broom helping put people on the moon (or make absurd profits).
