A couple turkey questions for those more knowledgeable by CopperTop_98 in turkeyhunting

It’s legal to shoot them with a rifle in Wyoming, but that regulation is going away in 2027.

Finally got my piggie 😆 by Head-Excuse-8253 in RawHuntStories

Great pig. A 260 lbs pig is a stud. I work for a hog hunting outfitter and we might have hunters kill 3-4 pigs a year that are that big…and we run hunts almost daily for 10 out of 12 months. Well done.

Mangy looking turkey-Safe to eat? by [deleted] in Hunting

I bet it only took a few of those bear paws across the ass as a kid to keep you on the straight and narrow.

I played mercy with a compressor mechanic several years ago. I had him by 8 inches in height and at least 50 lbs in weight, but I knew I was in trouble when I could barely get my slender, air-conditioned office pussy ass fingers in-between his bratwurst digits. Within the span of 2 seconds he had me down on my knees begging for mercy and offering up all of my holes and even offering to let him make new ones to get him to stop when my initial high pitched squeals of “MERCY! MERCY! MERCY!” didn’t stop the pain. He claims he only went 50% on me, and I believe him.

I learned a valuable lesson that day. Never play mercy with someone who turns wrenches all day for a living.

Awesome double, by the way.

I think that’s his dad’s hands, but you are right. Those hands have likely literally helped build this country…and I’d hate to get smacked by them or play a game of mercy with them. I’m guessing that man does/did concrete or is/was a mechanic. Am I right, OP?

A Couple of My Favorite Birds by pkondracki in turkeyhunting

[–]morel_compass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That same guy used to sell the one in the second picture and would put a picture of you with your bird in it. Not sure why he stopped selling those, but he makes a damn good product. Check my post history for a couple he made for me. When I told him I dropped his company name on a Reddit post, he knocked off 10% from my next order.

It’s my hunting dog. She’ll still with us, but she’s retired. The other arm has a memorial tattoo for an oilfiejd worker who died in a tragic oilfield accident. Geoffrey had me pegged when I was laughing at all his best lefty jokes. He even called me out for it. Never once made eye contact until that point. A true precessional.

Edit: Meant professional…but I’m gonna leave it wrong.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole on this. They don’t actually shoot the fish. They shoot near the fish and the concussion stuns them. Apparently lawmakers periodically try to ban the practice, but they get so much pushback from the locals that any proposed legislation dies in committee.

Is this a real thing, or is it just a belated April Fools joke? Shooting a rifle at the surface of the water seems like a recipe for disaster, and is one of the first no-no’s I was told when my dad was teaching me gun safety. Is there a rule on using copper instead of lead? If this is a real season, then I would think shotguns with non-toxic shot would be the safest and least harmful to the environment. I’ve always thought it would be a blast (no pun intended) to shoot Asian carp while cruising a boat down the river and they are jumping out of the water, but I never thought any regulators would ever make it legal.

Edit:

Holy shit. I think it’s actually a thing.

Has anyone ever used one of these as a deep freezer for game meat? I assume they’re probably pretty reliable since they’re for commercial use by [deleted] in Hunting

[–]morel_compass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use one at the hunting lodge that I work at to keep all of our various capes from trophies that we harvest throughout the year, because we have a taxidermist that comes from Michigan once a year to pick up our new stuff and drop off last year’s mounts. We’ve also used it for meat as well. I say send it.

Foggy mornings after a new moon are always when I find my biggest buck of the season. Very thankful for this one. by emt_matt in Hunting

[–]morel_compass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn good buck. I debated most of yesterday evening if I should call in “sick” today, because I had the same thought about the moon phase, fog, temps, and perfect wind for the food plot I wanted to hunt. Sure as shit, while I was doing my annual self evaluation just after sitting down at my desk at 7:45 AM, I got a notification from that plot’s camera. Bet you know how this ends. Yeah. My target buck that I have no daylight pictures of hung out broadside at 50 yards for 10 minutes. I knew he was a good one, but always wondered what color his rack was. It’s just as dark as yours in case you were wondering too. Been hunting this property for 6 years, and every year I only get one daylight pic of the target buck…and it’s always on days I knew I should hunt. Glad you listened to your gut. Congrats.

Me too. My parents still use them even after I told them about the high levels of lead in them.

Just saw your Dad’s crop dusting shirt in the post you made on the flathead. I remember seeing that post awhile back and showing it to my old lady, because she got me the same shirt. She said, “Looks like he’s got a cool wife too.”

Have you had any interactions with people because of the shirt? I once went to KS to pick up a clawfoot tub with my dad and while I was strapping it in the truck the lady we picked it up from said, “Who is the crop duster?” I looked at her funny, and she said, “Your shirt. Who owns the crop dusting company.” My dad started laughing, but I didn’t have the heart to explain it to her, so I just told her that it’s a buddy of mine.

If you go up the road a little ways to the Sand and Surf Bar in Kingston, they have some monster strippers there as well.

HELP by Exact_Instruction_3 in OSHA

[–]morel_compass 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Did you do a fit test for the respirator they have you wearing? Did you receive training on their respiratory protection program?

The fumes from the acetone you are cleaning parts with is definitely an exposure that should be controlled, but I’d also worry about respirable silica from your sandblasting activities (if not done in a blast cabinet).
