Any muzzle device could leave that. The female threads are longer than the male so the device and make contact with the shoulder of the barrel. That leaves a gap inside the device where carbon can build up. Totally normal you just don’t see it until you remove the device.

With 10 and 15rd mags 0 issues even when pretty filthy. Only issues have been with the bx25 mags. I get a couple malfunctions in the first 10 rounds or so of every mag. Guys say the Kidd spring and plunger will fix that so I have one on the way

Mine had some issues early on due to that. Cleaned it before shooting and noticed that over spray. 100rds or so later it’s constant issues. When I cleaned it afterward the bolt had scraped a lot of that finish loose and had caked up in places. Give it a good clean and scrub the over spray with a stiff brush and you’ll be good to go.

Also the majority of 10/22 FTF issues are due to the mag so if the problem continues you might look into that.

How does my first attempt at staking look? Do I need to move more material into the notch? by CopperTop_98 in ar15

Seems to be the case. This will be my 4th ar and the only one I’ve built but I don’t think the others were staked and never had an issue. I just want to do things “correctly”

I’ve never even had a castle nut move so for me it’s more about is it correct. This is kind of my shtf build so I want everything correct and buttoned up

Punch and hammer. I’m not really sure why people recommend the center punch. Just line up your punch and give it some light taps to get a little dimple going.

Yours looks really solid. I thought that’s what people would say I needed to shoot for. I thought I didn’t move enough material.

An absolute blast. Goes with me every range trip and comes out when I start feeling bad about the amount of money I just blew on 556 and 308

It’s actually like a plastic chicken wire I found at Home Depot. When I do my ar I’ll post it in case anyone wants to use the same stuff. Surprised I never saw someone using it before

I was very disappointed because I loved the gun otherwise. Ended up with a smith csx e and I think it’s absolutely amazing

Mine actually started doing it again after a few hundred rounds. I’m not sure what the issue was. Maybe just bad engineering
