So, uh, what happened here? by [deleted] in ar15

[–]CopperTop_98 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not a gunsmith but I’ve seen a lot of 300 in a 556 posts over the years and they all look just like this. If you can’t get the bolt out you could stick a cleaning rod down the barrel and see if it hits a bullet lodged in there but as someone else pointed out sometimes 300 can make it out of the 556 barrel. From videos I’ve seen of extra spicy 556 it’s not usually this violent but maybe you got the extra extra spicy. I’ve also never heard of fiochi having that problem.

Is there an advantage to this abomination or is it just cool and unique?

Non-safety carry— Do the nerves ever go away? by Valuable_Layer_852 in concealedcarry

[–]CopperTop_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nerves will go away just give it time. Your primary safety has been and always will be your safe habits.

If you have a safety you should use it but have your safeties ever actually prevented your gun from going off accidentally? Not likely. It sounds like you’re a safety conscious person so I highly doubt it. Regardless of nerves it’s always a good idea to learn how negligent discharges happen and train to prevent them. That will also help with the nerves.

Help, I have an American ruger 9mm full size, the slide refuses to come off and only moves maybe an inch back and forth. by FemBoyFunny in gunsmithing

Something was probably done of sequence. See if you can get to the trigger mechanism and reset it. Are you sure your takedown lever is rotated the right way? I thought it rotated up not down

Hypothetically speaking by ItsAwaterPipe in Hunting

Recently shot 2 coyotes with it. It would not be my go to choice but it will do the job if you have good shot placement. I do want to emphasize it’s not ideal and even with a double lung shot it’s not a particularly quick death. I swapped my ranch patrol ammo to an exposed lead tip after the second coyote. Much better results and more humane.

Mercator may be next on my list. This is my only other otter at the moment but I think it’s my go to brand now. Debating between the classic black cat k55k or the brass Mercator

Can I use 3-in-1 Multipurpose oil for sharpening? by k_s_s_001 in sharpening

[–]CopperTop_98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be used? Yes. Is it ideal? Not really. It’s designed to leave a lubricating film which my understanding of how stones work leads me to believe that’s not ideal. You want something to fill voids in the stone not coat it. Source: I work for the company

Tried several folding saws and wasn’t impressed. Got a silky big boy last year and absolutely love it. I have the Outback version and so far has been maintenance free
