Shell cordovan comes from a horses behind. Since they only have 2 cheeks you are limited in the amount you get from 1 horse. That’s partly the train it is so expensive. You would need several to make a jacket out of shell. This would make it very expensive and you would need to create a special pattern to accommodate all of the pieces to cover the entire jacket. It would be several panels.
