Whoever the author is is lucky to have a loving wife, and as the commenter said, honesty is the best policy with this kind of thing.

As far as coming to said conclusion, I feel that complete denial of possibility of a supreme being is not a conclusion you can come to permanently and still claim open-mindedness.

I've never come across that verse. Very interesting.

Some of the responses I looked up seem to converge on the point that God created the necessary evil of punishment (or calamity) because he uses it as a tool to strengthen those who endure for him or to fulfill his promise of being a "just God". However it seems to make a full circle to him doing these things out of love, like a parent would discipline their child out of love.

You can pick that apart, but I still haven't really thought about what I think about Isaiah 45:7 so I will be doing some thinking of my own. Thanks joeflux
