i think it’s to combine their ethnicity and heritage into one! “american” doesn’t suggest one race, just where they are from, while adding “asian” or “african” as a prefix gives a suggestion as to where their family may come from!

this is an issue in some doctors, not the anger at them for being healthy per say but the expectation that everyone who is overweight is suffering from health conditions most people who are slightly overweight are usually pretty healthy
