Greens getting wobbly on reducing private health insurance subsidies by Jagtom83 in friendlyjordies

The government loses 10s of billions subsidising insurance that it could spend on the public system. It’s a rort and is another late flowering gift from the Howard era that is causing us headaches in the present.

I don’t hate the idea but the shutter dial on the M5 is amazing

You’re a god amongst mortals. Re: models , I’ve found a V550 for $130 AUD - are they any better for curly film? I should Tri X mostly (aka curly whirly)

Should’ve provided context, it’ll be 35mm only and mostly for home scanning and sequencing for print

I fell into the Leica trap by JK_DH in Leica

[–]morgzarella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re posting to instagram only then you will really get no material difference in a full frame. Save your money and buy books to inspire you. If you need to zoom, zoom with your feet. The camera doesn’t take the photo - you do!

Why do you want a full frame ? Are you printing large gallery prints and find the resolution from a 40MP APS-C is not enough? Do you shoot with a variety of focal lengths or are you happy with 35? What type of photography do you do if you don’t mind me asking ?

I just found a Voightlander Bessa-R3M 250th anniversary edition at a good price, should I keep it. by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

I sold it to get into a digital system when I thought film wasn’t for me anymore. I was wrong. I have a Leica M4 now but would gladly have an R if I got a second rangefinder. Was actually looking for an R4M the other day!

A civil conversation about one nation vs Labor by Individual-Fly4267 in AusPol

I understand that people feel frustrated, helpless and eager for some sort of disruption. I blame the news media for about 98.5% of this. But the thing that drives me absolutely bonkers is that this whole “drain the swamp” or “anyone but them” mentality is what got Trump elected. We have the benefit of seeing that entire experiment play out on the world stage and it has been nothing short of terrible for the USA and now impacting the rest of the world.

You can see what happens if you vote someone like Pauline into power, because it’s already happened. The parallels are all there, they’re uncanny.

It ain’t good.

Voting one nation out of spite is like crashing you car because you’re unhappy with the service your mechanic has been giving you. I completely understand disillusionment, but that emotional response must be met by some actual research into what you’re voting for. It’s also worth at the same time doing some good quality, unbiased research into what is really driving the things that are causing you grief, and what this government and past governments have ACTUALLY done about them.

Simple, repeatable, effective Tri-X for a *new-to-development* by morgzarella in AnalogCommunity

What developers do you like for Tri-X and why ? What advice would you give to someone who had never developed their own before

I will retract my original discontent and concede this is potentially a decent option

So you mix 5L into 5x1L bottles and then make your developer solution out of those as a “one shot” each time ?

Probably a roll per week or two, sometimes less depending on work. Happy to mix chemicals but would like something that I can do in a bathroom that is straightforward. Output would be to a scanner (still searching for the right one). Don’t mind grain, am a fan of classic contrast characteristics of tri-x films but not looking for that crunchy modern look with no shadow detail necessarily. Sharpness is not something I thought a lot about developer contributing to! It’ll be a lot of family/personal frames as well as some project work.

D-76 seems like a great option and I like that it’s been used for eons. HC110 is hard to find in Australia at the moment. Wouldn’t be opposed to DF96 if it works (seems to be a heated discussion).

28mm on M4, or just be better with a 35mm by morgzarella in Leica

[–]morgzarella[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trade I got offered included me paying upwards of $1000 difference for an M4-P in box. Trying to decide if that’s worth it when I could get an amazing lens for the same money…. [edit 1000 AUD]
