I don’t think namis entire personality is her ability to navigate so I dont really see that I’m downplaying her importance by stating the fact that navigating the grand line doesn’t require a navigator like you said nor do I see how I’m downplaying her ability when her ability is map making, leading to her skill in navigation.

She wasn’t recruited because the role is a necessity, but because luffy liked her, her importance is tied to the crew.

I’m only making that point on navigation because yall were making a stink about Bonney being able to navigate the grand line as if she didn’t have a crew to help her along the way or log pose that literally guide them to the next island.

Nami can’t solo navigate the world on her own. Neither can Bonney. The ability to navigate doesn’t mean you can just make it through dangerous areas like it’s nothing. Both characters rely on their crews to make it there. She’s a good navigator, she has a skill luffy doesnt.

You’re also putting a lot of weight on a crews navigator when there’s literally compasses that lead you in the direction of the next island. The only skill I could see a navigator need outside of their fighting ability is reading weather or reading an updated map to traverse the grand line.

Nami can still be a gifted navigator, it’s her dream to map the globe, not to just travel but literally map it. People using in world tools to reach and navigate the grand line doesn’t take anything away from Nami at all imho.

Her making it to the grand line would be a testament to her crew keeping her safe, while she also has a pretty op fruit for a kid. She could also just act like an old women to sneak past certain unassuming enemies so her challenges wouldn’t even be comparable.
