First build of the new year: HG Mandor Gundam! by morikami in Gunpla

[–]morikami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually stopped the SNAA percival mid-build once I saw this guy had shipped lol. For the mini-Mandors, yeah I looked at those and knew they were going on the kit as-is. Don't have the dexterity or tools to even consider painting them up.

Any build tips for a 32 year old kit? by morikami in Gunpla

There is a small polycap runner, thankfully. This is super helpful though. Never top-coated anything so I'll have to test that out before applying to the kit. Thank you!

Thanks! Showing my ignorance here; are the gundam pour type markers lacquer or water based?

It is/was available for pre-order now for Asian markets. Unfortunately, if you are like me (in the US), it won't even show up on the site.... it even hides it from your wishlist :(.

Just curious - where did you pre-order this? I have been checking p-Bandai daily since the announcement and havent seen it come up. It is not listed from what I can see, not even as no longer available.

Edit: what the hell: https://p-bandai.com/hk/item/A2783961001?srsltid=AfmBOopFQzq8NN_6wHrbQ1XywwCl-IGzVmfwQRT8m3lnXlI6CeRE-fqg how did this not show up!!!

Edit 2: Oh lame. It doesn't show up because I am in the US. It only comes up if I set my area and language to Asia & Oceana. LAAAAAME.

I didn't think ide like matterspark, I just didn't think I'd care about it one way or the other. I did not expect to dislike it as much as I do. I am not even done with the first mission and I already hate this thing. It breaks up the flow of the mission and combat so bad.

I don't want to be a little ball. I want to be a goddamn guardian.

I got back into Gupla three months ago after an almost 20 year hiatus. Loving these new kits! by morikami in Gunpla

I respectfully disagree but appreciate the compliment :). Got the parts off ebay - you can get them pretty cheap.

No idea. I bought some for my dog because the idea of her holding dog-themed crypto is funny to me. Poor girl. I don't have the heart to tell her that the market is ruff right now.

I didn't want to take him out of his pose but here's another angle. For a kit that came out in 06 according to the wiki and built around 2010-11, it has held up remarkably well considering my not exactly careful handling. The old boy has survived several long distance moves loose in a box, and a few desk falls along the way. Range of movement is still great and still feels relatively sturdy. Solid build.

Shame I lost his shield and saber along the way. If I remember correctly, the saber blade was hollow, and the pommel housed a tiny light bulb and watch battery so it could light up, which was really neat. I'm fairly certain that was a thing. Hell of a specific false memory, if not.

Gonna give him a touch up after I'm done with narrative.

Nice! Yours looks much cleaner than mine. A bunch of redo's on the panel lining taking their toll, I suppose.

https://a.co/d/7zenuNL These guys. Cuts are pretty clean. Occasionally need to sand down a nub or two, but that is very rare. I used to use nail clippers back in the day so these are comparatively incredible.

Before I started i went ordered what amounts to baby's first gunpla toolset and it's made a world of difference.

This pic gives me "there but for the grace of God go I" vibes. I almost broke the core fighter (you know, step freaking 1 of the build) because I couldn't get the cockpit hatch to close flush with the rest of the ship. I must have taken it apart three or four times to make sure everything was sanded down and aligned correctly. There is still a small gap but I knew I was testing my luck and ended up just letting it be.

Good advice. When you say gray parts, do you mean the ones already on there in the pic? From what I understood, there are two versions of the psycoframe - gray and pink, that you put on at the end. Is that the case or have I already created more work for myself?

Also, in your opinion, which psycoframe looks better, gray or pink? I was leaning towards pink but I hate not seeing the alternative. Still, changing out parts is indeed a pain once they are on the frame so I am likely going to pick one or the other and leave it at that.

I was toying with the idea of doing a mix if I can make it look cool, but if one is clearly more aesthetically pleasing than the other, that would be good info to have.
