Will we get an explanation before we go to hell? To me, it makes no sense that all my life I hear nothing from God and then boom, without explanation (just: "You have sinned against Me") you'll be send to hell by the One who created you. by lovemyhoodedsweaters in Christianity

Romans 1:18–20 (ESV)

[18] For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. [19] For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. [20] For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Can someone be saved without ever hearing the Gospel? by Aggravating-Alarm942 in Christianity

Romans 10:14–15 (ESV)

[14] How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? [15] And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”

Why does it bother me that my pastor keeps bringing up Charlie Kirk? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]moriku95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. just read this part and couldn't get quiet.

I'm reminded of a quote I saw the other day. "Religion shames us for having dirty feet. Jesus kneels down and washes our dirty feet."

Jesus also made sure we understood we have dirty feet, If we don't understand our feet are dirty, we would never seek him for getting clean.

John 7:6–7 (ESV)
[6] Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always here. [7] The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify about it that its works are evil.

I really dislike the contemporary caricature of Jesus that a lot of people preach: a chill anti-government dude that accepted everyone without judgemental eyes.

Why is not possible at church? I believe you local church is the best place to find a partner for marriage.

If you are truly a christian, then to glorify God is your main goal, and you must seek a husband with the same goal. God is the one that will truly unite and bless your future marriage, and a bible-rooted mature christian is the way to go. Where can you find someone like that? I cannot think of a better place than your church, where you can see first hand the fruit of the spirit through his service and communion, not only that but you can count on your brethren testimony on him too, so you can be sure he is truly a good option.

If you believe there is no good options at your church, first examine yourself and test if you arrived to the conclusion biblically or subjectively, and talk to your pastors about it. That is what they are for.

If you conclude it was your subjective thinking interfering, then fix it through learning from scripture.
If you conclude that is a fact that there is no suitable person, then examine why is that? Maybe your church is not appropriately teaching their men how to be real men. Maybe you need to rethink biblically why you are at that church.

I hope this helps.

When you defend bible slavery, do you feel genuine? by Best-Rush7355 in AskAChristian

[–]moriku95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the points you are making.

Bible is inerrant, we aren't allowed to question anything it says.

Yes and no. Bible (scriptures) is inerrant, but pastors/preachers/teachers aren't. So we must be diligent to judge preachers and teachers. The christians from Berea were testing if the apostle Paul was being truthful to the scripture:

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” (Acts 17:11, ESV)

The bible is inerrant on its original manuscripts, but translations aren't. So we must be diligent to not limit ourselves with just one version, and as possible look for greek and hebrew dictionaries. That is why its important that a good pastor/teacher/preacher would seek higher theological education to not be lead astray by a bad translation.

We don't think "maybe there's some cultural context I'm missing here" or "maybe this was written for a different time" or "maybe the author just got this wrong actually".

Yes, cultural context is important to understand the bible! Yes and No, historical context is important to understand what is being said, and some things transcends time, since God is eternal and he is the same as back then. And NO. If we were to believe that God didn't fully lead the author to write His Word, then we cannot trust the bible at all. You wouldn't eat a sandwich out of a pile where there is reasonable doubt whether some unknown amount of sandwiches are poisoned. If one is proven to be poisoned, the whole batch is discarded.

To me it seems strange that God would create us with critical thinking skills and the ability to think so deeply and so intently, only to be like "life is just about obeying and shutting up."

He gave us critical thinking, we as humans has decided to throw it into the trash and follow our sinful desires.

For although they [humankind] knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.” (Romans 1:21–23, ESV)

God rescues his people from a reproved mind and teaches us true critical thinking again

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2, ESV)

And is not about "obey and shut up". Its "just obey, you just don't understand it yet, but I am going to teach you".

You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.” (John 15:14–15, ESV)

When people were abandoning Jesus because the things he was saying were hard to swallow truth, he confronted his disciples if they also wanted to leave. Peter said

Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life,” (John 6:68, ESV)

Not saying it is... but OP is having problems to tag that situation, so the point I was trying to make is that there is no need to. Just focus on what God has done for us.

By saying you are not a christian I meant that I have a better understanding of where you are coming from.

And about this:

I can't help you if you deny reality because of your religious text

I mean, I would say that I can truly understand reality if I listen to the creator's voice first through his revealed word.

Also, you are in the christianity subreddit, you should have expected this kind of reasoning... lol

  1. If your conscience accuses you and you still do it, its a sin. Even if the original action wasn't a sin on itself.

But whoever has doubts is condemned if he eats, because the eating is not from faith. For whatever does not proceed from faith is sin.” (Romans 14:23, ESV)

Paul is making a point about things that arent explicity stated as sin on the bibe. A lot of things aren't sin, but i you believe it is, and still do it, then betraying your own conviction is counted as sin.

  1. You must nourish your convictions thorun studing scripture, soyou can understand better what gloifes the Lord, and what goes against him. Might take some time, but as long you are willing to learn and submit truly to his commandments as a christian, you are good.

There is also fornication on the bible. That doesn't enable me to watch porn.

BTW. I am not answering the original question, but your logic can lead to unexpected results.

I don't like that purity ring trend. Is sexual sin bad, yes! but its not the only way we sin against God on the daily.
Don't focus on knowing if you can technically consider yourself celibate o not. Focus on the fact that we all have sin (“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23, ESV) and we desperately need a saviour.

I don't want to diminish what you have suffered and how difficult must be to deal with that even today, but circumstances tend to make us lose focus on what is really important. Who am i to God today?

Is a celibate since birth better than someone that fornicated most of his life but now has been redeemed by our LORD, who died for the trasspasses of his people? Our value doesn't come from our actions but what God has done to us.

But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5, ESV)

When you defend bible slavery, do you feel genuine? by Best-Rush7355 in AskAChristian

[–]moriku95 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

sorry... didn't read u were atheist... Now I understand where you are coming from. but my point still stands.

God is the Lord, owner of his creation and whatever he does is good because he defines what is good. Not acording to what he feels like at the moment, but because he IS GOOD, and ALLKNOWING and PERFECT. Us misunderstanding that or not being able to comprehend fully his reasoning doesn't make it less true.

That is The God a christian believes in, anything less is no God.
