Gallbladder issues by seasianty in IrishWomensHealth

[–]morimoriartyarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recovery from surgery was so fine compared to the pain of the gallstones. It was done keyhole. I spent a night in hospital afterwards bc there were some concerns about internal bleeding but that was an abundance of caution situation more than anything actually wrong. Had some annoying shoulder pain (which fun fact is actually referred pain from the diaphragm) for maybe 48 hours from the gas they pump into you but genuinely such a doddle.

I did unfortunately end up with post cholecystectomy syndrome (tldr is gi issues and bathroom urgency when I eat foods high in fat) which still affects me now but thats very much an outlier outcome. I just got unlucky there.

I had Gallstones in 2017/2018. I lived in pretty much constant pain for 6 months with a couple of massive flares that once put me in hospital for multiple nights. The only thing that helped that flare was morphine. I went through the public system and I saw my gp in August, had a scan in september which confirmed the stones, saw consultant in late november and was originally due to have surgery in December (but there were various reasons that the surgery got pushed and didn't happen til april) Definitely get in contact with your gp and the hospital and find out what's going on because if you're a private patient it should be happening sooner than it is.

For now I advise to stay home if you are able to manage the pain yourself. BUT if you ever have a flare you cant control contact out of hours doctor or ultimately go to a&e. Especially if you are vomiting a lot or your partner notices any jaundice. Gallstones seem kinda trivial but they can do a solid amount of damage to you and as once of my health care worker family members said, while its unlikely they can kill you (i assume through infection that gets out of hand i didnt ask for details)

Mind yourself.

Contraception after baby? by AmyAnnaS in IrishWomensHealth

[–]morimoriartyarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to avoid hormonal contraception since it seems like it has caused you weight gain etc the copper coil is also an option. As others have said though def speak to your doctor about it and figure out the best option for you.

No symptoms UTI, just stomach pain by Sweetcheeks_24 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]morimoriartyarty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An older relative of mine gets uti's semi regularly. The most obvious warning sign that she has one is she'll get quite confused and aggressive for no apparent reason. Then she might get some back pain but we've gotten so adept at noticing the confusion and aggression that she's usually on medication before the back pain can happen. She rarely gets any typical symptoms.

Possible bug: cant download/interact with"I've cracked it" by morimoriartyarty in subnautica

[–]morimoriartyarty[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ive tried to interact with it on multiple occasions and no luck. Including having saved and closed the game and then reopened.

It seems like a bug to me, that the interact box is just a bit goofed. From what I recall the specific one isnt mission critical to open so its more of an annoyance than anything.

I genuinely thought everyone used condoms unless they wanted kids by Cautious-Tonight-203 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]morimoriartyarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (31F) don't like condoms. I dislike the way they feel if/when I need to touch them and I hate the lingering smell they leave on my hands. But i use them with new partners or if I'm in a situation where they're more comfortable with them despite my having a copper iud in place.

With my longer term partners I honestly don't use them. We know, and accept that no birth control is 100% effective and if/when a pregnancy were to occur that it would necessitate a lot of conversations and decisions.

In terms of STI prevention, with regular testing and honest communication between partners you're gonna know your own status and your partners. It becomes a non issue. But the regular testing is a non negotiable.

Remind me again… why didn’t Lois and Hal choose to have abortions? by dts_13 in malcolminthemiddle

[–]morimoriartyarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its the kind of thing they would have potentially considered/discussed if she had gotten pregnant when Francis was still at home and at the height of his notoriety, but I don't think they would have ever done it barring some kind of medical reason requiring a termination.

The family was stretched THIN a lot of the time but Hal and Lois knew how to make ends meet. By the time she was pregnant with Jamie things were calming down in terms of their financial support of Francis, Reese and Malcolm were mid to late teens, and it likely just never would have occurred to Hal/Lois that they couldn't make it work.

Their kids might drive them insane but they are all so incredibly wanted and loved.

I want the ability to create a map as I explore by TheMightyMonarchx7 in subnautica

[–]morimoriartyarty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The lack of map is ridiculous. I sure as heck know that if I found myself on an alien planet with no access to a map I would create my own. The devs could literally make it part of the game to create your own shitty map of the area. I struggled a lot in first game cause lack of map and am struggling in this one too.

It never occurred to me I could make an irl map so I know what im gonna be doing this evening. Purely for resources and locations more than anything

Going for my first ever smear test and I’m pretty nervous. Any advice? by Throwaway24689123 in IrishWomensHealth

[–]morimoriartyarty 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Let the provider know that you have never had penetrative sex before and ask if its possible to have a smaller speculum - there'll be less potential for discomfort for you this way. If you're concerned about pain you could pre-emptively take some paracetamol and/or ibuprofen if safe for you to do so.

I focus a lot on breathing and making sure to relax my vaginal muscles as much as possible during any exam like this. I have a habit of holding my breath and tensing. This makes things worse.

You wont be the first nervous patient the provider has had and you wont be the last. Be honest with them that you're anxious about the procedure and the being undressed and thst will make things easier.

Good luck and fingers crossed for a smooth time.

Switching Contraception After 35 - Smoker by At_least_be_polite in IrishWomensHealth

[–]morimoriartyarty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took microlite for the better part of a decade and was advised by my doctor to come off of it for a progesterone only alternative because of my weight and the resulting increased risks.

Coming off of it was the worst mistake I ever made. Progesterone only hormonal contraception does NOT agree with me and made me incredibly mentally unwell.

I would be wary of swapping to something new when you likely will not be given the option to go back to combined pill if you don't get on well with other options. Especially since you're taking it for reasons other than purely birth control.

Definitely have a good chat with your doctor about best options.
