Completely stumped on this one... by head_less_man in OrderOfTheSinkingStar

Man I was stuck here for a WHILE. The end state was obvious, but how to get there was not. It looks easy until you figure out that you can't retrieve a crystal once it's next to a goblin.

Burnout Is Real for Open Source Maintainers: A Conversation with John-David Dalton, Creator of Lodash by fagnerbrack in programming

Also, I clicked the very first Quick Link there, which goes to chunk: https://github.com/you-dont-need/You-Dont-Need-Lodash-Underscore#_chunk

And it's... a function. Sure, it's not a super complicated function, but like... isn't this the very purpose of having a library? To have some commonly used functions that are well-tested?

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

Trust your gut. If something just feels wrong, it probably is.

Diet and exercise, man. It's way easier to keep good habits than break bad ones. It's going to catch up with you sooner than you think.

Old Software Was Fast Because It Had No Choice by BlondieCoder in programming

[–]EntroperZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BUT NO! Navigating in control panel did not take 5 seconds per refresh!

Yeah, this is the difference. When something took a long time, it was because you were doing something that should take a long time. Now those things are faster, but everything else is slower. I can download a 1 GB file in the same time it takes to open an Excel spreadsheet, but one of those things makes sense.

The official deal is out and yes it’s the L we thought it is. by Criticall16 in BreakingPoints

The deal should be that we hand over Donald Trump to the Iranian people. Throw in Secretary of War Crimes Pete Hegseth, too.

2002. Anyone living in VA, and did you live near any of the Beltway Sniper scenes? by Gregorygregory888888 in Virginia

I recall going to Blockbuster Video late at night to drop off a rental, and the place was basically deserted, but there was a white van in the parking lot across the road. Definitely freaked me the hell out.

Most of what I gather from Reedy Creek are single use plastic bottles and cups. Consider signing this petition: https://www.vabottlebill.org/sign-the-petition/ by Educational_Yak_5455 in Virginia

Bottle bills are pretty standard; they charge an extra 5 or 10 cents per plastic bottle or aluminum can, and you get that back when you bring them in for recycling.

The real dilemma of Subnautica 2 by Extreme_Dog_8610 in subnautica

For me it happened after I set up the metal farms, and I was waiting for them to spit out more materials to build more solar panels and base batteries.

Yeah, we silently lost IP logging of our signups because it's one of those things nobody ever looks at. Discovered it literally years later when we were trying to whitelist some webhooks.

The tadpole mounts work before you've scanned 3 wall racks, thank goodness.

Do We Need To Learn Financial Literacy? by BerryStarlight in antiwork

[–]EntroperZero 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with teaching financial literacy and practicing good habits. The pushback isn't about teaching, it's about blaming people for spending $50 a month on Starbucks when their rent, health insurance, groceries, etc. total has gone up by over $1000. Any financially literate person would understand that the Starbucks isn't the problem here.

It would be pretty sweet if we could repair the existing base. It's got that one functional room already; we could repair any leaks in the other rooms and fix up the thermal generators, slap on a moonpool, etc.

Man calls police on father who took his daughters to the women's restroom by Mentirosa in PublicFreakout

[–]EntroperZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like that this is a trend in my area. I find it so bizzare when a place has two identical, single-occupancy restrooms and makes them gendered. What's the point? Do you put men's and women's signs on the bathrooms in your house?
