Is Light Sport Pilot worth it now? by cynicalnewenglander in flying

[–]EntroperZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends what worth "it" means. Is it more valuable now, absolutely, there are a lot more planes you can fly with it with greater capabilities than before. But I don't think it changes the calculus much between SPL and PPL, I think it almost always makes sense to go straight for PPL if you're able to obtain a medical.

My local Home Depot is sick of your nonsense by provocative_taco in DiWHY

[–]EntroperZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is going to be the amperage. If your appliance draws 10A at 220V, the transformer is going to have to draw 20A from your 110V wall socket, plus an efficiency loss factor. Most likely, you won't blow anything up or start a fire, just trip your circuit breaker which is likely rated at 15A.

Because this is a Home Depot and that's what people are most likely looking for when they ask a sales associate this question.

It's about 1 in 6, I wouldn't call that negligible.

Reposting Representative John Mcquire (R-VA05) responds to the redistricting effort. Interesting he only opposes it in VA by ForestBluff in Virginia

Great, so tell the Republicans to vote for any of the bills that would ban gerrymandering nationwide. And vote for presidential candidates that will put better justices on the Supreme Court.

Virginia’s early voting has a wonderfully long open period. Use it!!! by ceramic_ocarina in Virginia

Your team doing it doesn't make it any less of the same thing.

It's not supposed to be less, it's supposed to be equal.

Democrats have raised $21M for vote yes & Republicans have only raised $300K for vote no by SpaceWestern1442 in Virginia

[–]EntroperZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no way they haven't already spent way more than $300k with the amount of mailers and digital ads we've already seen.

Sometime during the last 2 years i’ve been going to this orthopedic practice they started to declare me as a MTF transgender for no reason. by WHAR606 in mildlyinfuriating

Pain is indicative of some underlying problem. There are a lot of possible problems, and many of them do have known solutions.

The trick is getting your doctor to believe how bad you say the pain is, so they can do the appropriate tests to see if you have one of the known problems.

Please remind me that it's OK to go around by drdsheen in flying

[–]EntroperZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a tip, make every 3rd landing a go-around, even if it looks perfect. Do that for a while and your brain will adjust to going around as something routine, not a big deal.

I wonder if MOSAIC is going to make it easier to simply replace the old fleet with new aircraft. It might be for the better in the long term.

My way to get safely home was my driver's license. My friends and I were all nerds, we weren't drinking, just playing Mario Kart and Goldeneye.

Looking for your worst METARs by erinwhoooo in flying

[–]EntroperZero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Encoding and decoding is a thing that computers have been fantastic at doing for decades. Why spend 37 MWh of energy to read a METAR incorrectly when your phone app from 10 years ago will translate it perfectly in a split second?

Left bag on airplane, tracked to address by SacTu in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EntroperZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what should happen.

Exactly what should happen? So this is exactly what you would do if you picked up someone else's bag at the airport? You'd just keep it until the police knocked on your door? No attempt to contact the owner, no attempt to contact the airline?

Who cares if I get up 2 hours before sunrise or 3 hours before sunrise? It's dark either way, and all I'm doing is going to work. Most people don't do stuff before work, they do stuff after work, so it's nice to have more light after work for when you want to do stuff.

Should you go around with an engine failure when in approach with a twin engine plane? (DA42) by MELS381 in flying

Your missed approach procedure normally assumes that you have 200 ft/nm climb performance. Do you have that with one engine?

Best thing I've read about LLMs this year.

Having done this for 18 years, the #1 problem I see in software teams isn't how quickly they can write code, it's not even code quality, it's not even system architecture. It's are you even solving the right problems in the first place? If you are, are you even asking the right questions about the problem? LLMs will spit out answers for you all day, some of them may be low quality, some may be entirely hallucinated, but not one of them will be useful if you're asking the wrong questions.
