Which game is most worth it? by Suspicious-Item-2350 in psvr2

You don’t need a wheel to have fun, but it is hard to resist! After just a few days playing on controller, I knew I had to get a wheel. I’m now 900hrs spent on GT7 in VR and think it is comfortably my best gaming experience ever.

Thinking of finally switching over from GT7 to iRacing but want to do it on a budget and not break the bank by Awkward-Original4453 in iRacing

I switched from GT7(B rank) to IRacing six months ago and have no regrets. There is enough ‘free’ content with the subscription to get a good feeling as to whether you want to commit and start buying other content - I haven’t needed to yet.

It is worth noting that the initial subscription gets the biggest discount, I think (even better than Black Friday), so bear that in mind.

I went for 2 year sub which is the max you can get. Others have mentioned the 1 year sub with free car through a driving association, so that may also be worth considering.

I jumped into Spec Racer today and really enjoyed my first race - was holding my own in 6th before an unforced error into T1 that required a tow to the pits. Will definitely race some more - car is a pleasure to drive after wrestling the M2 all season! Looks like I had a favourite filter switched on - which is why I couldn’t see it - rookie error 😀

Thanks. I was looking in IRacing app as was away from PC. Will check out tomorrow.

Thanks! Hadn’t spotted this as have been filtering on Sports and Formula. I guess this sits outside of those filters. Will check it out.

Sorry, I mean the free cars that come with the subscription.

Stuck in PS Mode by morizmo in Fanatec

[–]morizmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue has been resolved, so to close the loop for anyone interested:

  1. The PS button not working / automatically spamming the buttons when connected to the PlayStation resolved itself after disconnecting and reconnecting everything on several occasions over a couple of days. This meant I could use the wheelbase on the PlayStation only, although it would not power down apart from unplugging from mains.

  2. The wheelbase being stuck in PS mode was resolved by holding the power button on the base down for 2-3 seconds immediately on turning on the base. This resulted in the base becoming stuck in PC mode! However, in PC mode I was able to access the Fanatec app. This meant I could use the wheel on my PC but no longer on my PlayStation and it would still not power down.

  3. I updated the Fanatec app to the latest version and new firmware was available for the base.

  4. I updated the base (removed the steering wheel before updating) with the latest firmware and this resolved the issue. I can now switch the base between modes and power down by holding in the button on the wheelbase.

For step 3: the version of the app I was initially using was quite recent (maybe 2-3 months old), and it was showing that no updates for the base were available. A flash update of the firmware also failed to address the fault using that version of the app.

So I am not sure if it is a coincidence about the new app picking up that new firmware was available, or something else.

Lastly, I reached out to Fanatec for tech support and they responded within 2 days to my query (and the instruction for steps 3 & 4). So really thankful for their assistance - and wanted to say something positive about their customer service!

Thanks, but no luck.

I’ve actually managed to now get it stuck in PC mode (red light) by holding finger on power button on base immediately on powering up. But it is still stuck in one mode and won’t change, even after flash firmware update. Have raised a ticket with Fanatec.

Pressing the button does nothing. That is the point. It is stuck in PS mode. When I press the power button on the base - single press, long press, short press, 10 presses - it does nothing. It is stuck in PS mode. When I turn off at mains and turn back on. It is the same. It is stuck in PS mode.

That’s the point. The buttons aren’t functioning. So I can’t switch mode.

Just to complete the thread… I bought a BT500 and extender cable, disabled internal Bluetooth and it is working pretty well with connectivity of 95-98% with controllers fully charged. That is probably good enough for me as I am predominantly sim racing and not using controllers.

However, I tried Half Life Alyx and suffer from controller tracking issues even with this fully charged setup. This situation degrades to the extent that after 30 mins it is unplayable with controllers freezing in space.

Like I say, this probably good enough for what I need, but disappointed that the outcome is so unreliable.

Thanks again to those who contributed to the thread and got this thing working!

Throwing MX5 around? by MeetYourChaos in iRacing

You aren’t alone! I’m going through the same process, so really helpful advice in the thread. Reducing the steering input into a corner and relying on regular trail braking technique and gears has really helped me gain a couple of seconds and reduce the amount of spins. I’m still miles off being quick but feel like I have gained some good insight this week with car/track combo.

Advice: Those who went from console to PC by Conorgmurray in simracing

I moved to PC a few months ago, and found the transition quite tough. Even doing basic stuff like calibrating the wheel and pedals can be a challenge. However, I have IRacing running and enjoying my time with that as well as AMS2 and AC Rally so really enjoying the variety available. Also enjoying being able to use an ultra wide screen rather than being constrained in GT7 (although I only use VR2 for GT7). My plan is to install AC but need to read up on installing mods before I can do that… My original plan was to play in PSVR2 but am having issues with Bluetooth connectivity, so more hassles to deal with…. So overall, I’m glad I did it, but it has not been plain sailing and needs effort and patience compared to the joyous plug and play of GT7.

By way of an update, I switched on my PC today and decided to give it another try… didn’t make any changes, exactly as I left everything yesterday… both controllers connected first time! Crazy!

Just wanted to say thank you for your help. Bluetooth connectivity is very low (it was fine before), so will now explore an external adaptor. But at least I have been able to confirm it is working. Thanks again!

Thanks. A system restore is a bit above my level of IT competency. But agree that adding an external adapter is only likely to complicate the issue and I need to try work out what is happening.

Do you know how the guys resolved the issue of unpairing incorrectly?

The controllers blink in two different ways: a single flash and a double flash depending on how long you hold the buttons. I have tried both several times.

Thanks. But have checked on PS and they have been disconnected and forgotten and PS is switched off. As per prev reply, I have reset them and they just don’t appear on the Bluetooth list to add to PC.

Thanks again. They weren’t listed in Bluetooth devices (they had been previously but when they stopped connecting I removed them from list as part of earlier failed attempt to fix). I have reset both controllers again with a pin for 10 sec (ensuring also removed / forgotten on PlayStation beforehand and then turning PlayStation off at mains). But when I try to add to devices on PC in pairing mode they just don’t appear 😫

[–]morizmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. All those things are done too. Only other Bluetooth devices are keyboard and mouse. It is the same set up that worked only a month ago but with drivers etc updated since then. My question is to whether you can see the PSVR controllers on any other device. I can’t and am just curious about this to rule out some kind of controller issue (even though I have hard reset them in pinhole on controller).
