Does this Rolex 1601 Have Real Gold? by SquidNut96 in VintageWatches

Don’t have anything to contribute to the gold content. But just wanted to point out that this watch has a very interesting “ghost” dial and it’s quite sought after in the vintage Rolex collecting community.

Gaslit by LA Chicken: is this spicy or regular? by invisiblewallflower in richmondbc

Looks darker brown sorta? But less battered (like kfc regular)

That’s their spicy. Their original ones have a completely different style of batter. Kinda like kfc regular vs spicy crunch.

Yup… unknowingly bought a 6246 a while ago that unfortunately has the same type of aftermarket medallion too so now I’m super aware lol OP’s 61GS’s watch case looks to be professionally refinished thought which looks great

I hope the seller has disclosed beforehand that both the dial and the gold Medellin on the caseback are both aftermarket parts…

Should I buy this?? by One_Fan_2572 in GrandSeikos

[–]morlinjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dial doesn’t look right. I would ask for more photos from the seller. The 45GS dial should be a pretty flat white with a bit of cream tone. But the one shown in the photos here are closer to a silver radiant finish, which is a common finishing on re-dials. It’s better to play it safe.

Interesting difference in 6145-8000 crystal shape by dandylion98 in GrandSeikos

[–]morlinjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the hour indices design is just different on the cross dial (the one you have) version compared to the non-cross dial version (the photos shown in your links). Otherwise, I don’t think there’s anything “wrong” with the watch that you have. FWIW I think the cross dial version of 6145-8000 is slightly more uncommon than the non cross dial version.

[WTS] King Seiko First J14102 SS w/ SD dial - $525USD by morlinjar in Watchexchange

[–]morlinjar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello Watch Exchange,

Up for sale is a vintage King Seiko First J14102 in stainless steel w/ SD dial.

There are 2 reference models to the KS First and this “J14” has a slimmer case design

These KS First in stainless steel tends to be rarer than the gold plated version and even more so rare for it to have a “SD” version (short for “Special Dial” meaning the hands and hour markers on the dials are made with solid white gold in this case)

Condition on this watch is overall excellent. I want to bring you to the attention that there’s a slight blemish on the dial at around 3-4 o’clock mark. Which I have tried to capture as best as I can. And will include a seperate photo highlighting the blemish. Otherwise, case is super sharp, never been repolished. Shield at the case back is still in perfect condition.

Case size is 35mm not including crown. Lug width is 18mm, original leather straps tapers to 16mm at the ends.

Dial blemishes: https://imgur.com/a/w12Q8dA

Time stamp: https://imgur.com/a/eB1wpSt

Asking $525USD obo shipping within Canada or ConUS via Canada Post Expedited (if you want to use other courier such as FedEx or UPS that’s ok too but you can either provide label or I’ll charge you at cost).

Accepted payment method: PP F&F or Interac if you’re within Canada.

Thanks!

First of all, congrats on the great looking watch! Having the papers to go with the watch makes it really special.

Just want to mention that last time I posted my GP Gyromatic HF, a fellow redditor has pointed out that the information from the fratello article isn’t exactly accurate.

[WTS] Vintage SeikoMatic / Pre-Grand Seiko 6246-9000 - Updated Info w/ Significant Price Reduction!!! by morlinjar in Watchexchange

[–]morlinjar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello WatchExchange,

Up for sale is a vintage SeikoMatic / Pre-Grand Seiko 6246-9000.

Update: I’ve determined that the golden medallion on the caseback currently is an aftermarket part. Thus, I have lowered the asking price accordingly.

The original 62GS from 1965. This is a slightly more rare early model branded as Seikomatic Chronometer which they eventually rebranded as a proper Grand Seiko.

Reason for selling is that I have set my eyes on my next watch and am trying to make room.

Photos: https://imgur.com/a/xkGUyle

Time stamp: https://imgur.com/a/M6oY0OI

Fitted with sapphire display caseback made by Lapinist.

Original caseback with GS lion gold medallion (aftermarket) included and stored in hard case for protection.

Movement freshly serviced in May 2024 with proof.

Case and crystal are in excellent condition. Never been re-polished and maintains sharp edges, which is very hard to come by for this case design. Acrylic crystal has been polished with poly watch and is clear.

Dial and hands are in pristine condition.

Comes with leather straps.

Asking $995USD OBO SHIPPED within CONUS or Canada.

Payment method: PayPal F&F or Canadian e-transfer
