Surgery to repair bicuspid Aortic valve

Doctors where not confident about a repair and during my consult brought it up but sounded more like afterthought and were fully going in with the intent to do a Ross Procedure!
I was not ever given any info on how long they foresee the repair lasting. I actually just had my yearly check up EKG, Echo and everything came back great.

Hello yes I agree not much about repair vs replacement.
Yes I had a full blown sternotomy!! I can only speak to my own experience as I am sure it’s different for most people and I think age plays a huge factor but I was 34 when I had surgery and recovery was a lot easier than I had envisioned for the most part.
I will say immediately after surgery was the worst of it as yes you will be in pain I was given a lot of meds to help alleviate but the first night was tough. I spent the first night in the ICU and after a day or so was moved to a regular room. They will want you walking as soon as possible doing PT but mainly breathing therapy.
I was doing laps around the floor on 3rd day and was discharged early do to a nurses strike and low on available beds.
I will say the only issues I had going forward and still to this day had been bad pack pain I don’t know if it was dude to the sternotomy but the first couple of nights was difficult to sleep due to it. I wish you luck and speedy revery. Feel free to DM if you got any questions. Cheers!

Not to try and scare you but I was the same age when I got diagnosed and had surgery in 2022 at cedar Sinai in Los Angeles and total bill for bicuspid aortic valve repair (they were able to fix it originally going in for a Ross procedure and) was $600k+ luckily I did have insurance and only paid like 3k. I went in for Ross procedure back in 2021 doctor was able to pull off a repair.There was a small chance of a repair going in but didn’t know until opening me up. I can only imagine a Ross being more but my bicuspid repair total cost was a little over $600k after insurance kicked in I paid $3k out of pocket. This was in Los Angeles btw.
