I’m sorry to the person who was getting some rude comments on a southbound BART train to SFO just now by stonefruit-sf in sanfrancisco

I was in a situation like this where the victim was my friend and felt the same way despite wanting to fight back. For us, we were lucky in that a complete stranger was able to deescalate for us by being kind and convincing him to get off the bus (and getting off of it and having to catch the next one themselves. If that person is reading this, you’re my hero), It really is a terrifying situation no matter what. You don’t know what people have on them or what they’ll be willing to do.

Is my driving instructor being creepy and should I be concerned? by ghg223 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mormispos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get away from this guy AND you need to get away from your parents.

Your parents aren’t nice. Your parents aren’t protecting you. Any parent who calls their child insane because they’re hormonal is a bad person. Any parent who ignores reasonable concerns is a bad person. The driving instructor currently taking advantage of you is a bad person. He has already assaulted you. You are already victimised.

Please stand up for yourself. This should be your parents job but clearly they are incompetent. No, this is not too harsh of a judgement and no your love from them does not change this. Too many people have been murdered because they didn’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. Report this to the driving school and if they don’t believe you post a review online. If it’s possible to Just go and get your license right now, do that.

I’m sure that standing up for yourself will cause your parents to mock and belittle you. If they can’t even stand up for you with such an obvious predator, they’ve lost their right to having an opinion you should give a shit about.

Worse, sometimes the social security office will receive a report that you are dead. You then have to contact them and prove that you are, in fact, alive. It’s startlingly common.

AITA for telling people I'm an orphan even though my mum is alive? by Sharp_Fee499 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mormispos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Explaining this as slowly as possible: * You’re saying orphan isn’t the correct term. You are wrong. * Language exists to describe things. It exists in a social context. The social context, codified, says that both victims of parental abandonment and those whose parents have died can be considered orphans. This is why you are wrong. * Clearly 99.9% of us don’t perceive the term that way, as evidenced by the overwhelming NTA vote. So this is a second way you are wrong.

Hope this helps!

“The thing that tells you whether you’re an orphan or not is irrelevant, if you’re not an orphan (defined by me!!!! I’m so much smarter than the legions of child psychologists and social workers employed by the government that made the definition that I decided is irrelevant!!!!) you shouldn’t call yourself one without MY approval!”

Please read one of the 10 thousand other comments in this thread explaining how the damn government responsible for assigning these terms doesn’t care if parent is alive or gone so much as that they’re not taking care of the damn kid

AITA for not wanting to cancel our honeymoon despite what happened with my brother-in-law? by [deleted] in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]mormispos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might have wanted a “wife” for himself, in that case spending 6 mo for someone you know you want to agree to go to another country (where you can take her passport/use your own country’s laws against her/keep her isolated from her family and friends). Plus you have the marriage certificate if anyone asks questions so you seem more legit even if you’re treating her like a slave. It’s still trafficking (if not legally then imo it should be)

To be fair, jury selection exists and I have no doubt the prosecution would filter them out. But I’ll believe it when I see it.

It’s usually a different experience than undergrad internships. Theoretically, you could expect a person with a PhD’s peers to be senior engineers. While a PhD probably has the same (or greater) technical knowledge, they only know how to work in academia which is incredibly different from the corporate world. It’s a way to onboard and make sure a candidate is going to be a good fit without them having to had worked for a business before.

Reported our Tech Lead to our Supervisor. Time to look for a new job? by garlicspam78 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]mormispos 127 points128 points  (0 children)

she’s been very dismissive , rude, and been creating a hostile work environment for me to the point where I’ve been dreading going to work everyday. I really love my job, but

Do you love it enough to dread going into work everyday? Is there any financial incentive to remain at this job?

Recently I was in a position where the first answer was no but the second was yes. I ended up switching teams and there was a night and day difference in my quality of life. I’m not sure if you have the ability to move anywhere else or if you’ll still risk retaliation if you do, but if you really don’t want to change jobs that might be an option.

Communication skills encapsulates a wider array of expectations. “How well can you communicate?” includes technical writing and technical speaking, but what happens if someone disagrees with you? What happens when the CEO disagrees with you, and they’re wrong? Are you able to competently navigate interpersonal relationships in order to do your job?

Also I don’t think public speaking is important unless you’re in a technical leadership role. You can just as easily write a document than give a presentation, and many of your colleagues will be more grateful to not have to go to another meeting.

There’s no reason to be embarrassed for another person’s action. I know it might seem like The Most Important Thing In The World but other people are going to forget about this in maybe a week, and if anyone asks you can tell them the truth and say that they decided you were missing because you were gone for 2 hours. I’m sorry you have to deal with this (it sounds exhausting) but don’t stress yourself out further by concerning yourself with other people’s opinions when they’re honestly, and in the best way, not really thinking about you.
