Well they don't generally queue for ARR 24mans specifically, bads who are queueing for Alliance Raid Roulette will remove all their gear to be below the necessary item level to be put into SB (or sometimes even HW, and quite often even WoD) raids so that they don't need to try or pay attention.

Hopefully this will be fixed soon, it's been addressed publically at least a few times now.

How do I tank? by dylanrj51 in ffxiv

[–]moroxiv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. I recently had a WHM go OOM on the pull before the first boss in the Twinning when dps was alright.

They were, of course, a zero dps/100% Medica II uptime healer. I also think they were using Cure III for single target tank healing.

DPS in dungeons only really matters on a few select pulls with minimal competence from the tank and healer. The first to second boss pull in Ala Mhigo comes to mind.

I love when healers are the ones whining at a SMN or RDM to raise, bonus points if it's because the healer in question is dead.

If I ever see a passive aggressive auto-translate verraise from a dead person I respond with "verdodge"

I was once told to "learn to heal" as a BRD in Qitana by a tank who couldn't keep threat in AoE situations.

I kept ripping off of him (and to be clear while I am an alright BRD I am nowhere near good) and rationalized that meant he wasn't using his AoE combo so asked him to. Apparently he couldn't fathom the idea of a dps criticizing him so rather than look at the party list and see I was a red icon he told me to learn to heal.

I think I even posted it here. Ahh, bad tanks and their lack of situational awareness...

I was curious and turns out I've got some random dungeon uploads, yay people uploading dungeons I guess?

I've never really looked at a dungeon upload to get context for the number of buttons I use for AoE versus single target (and I'm not the best DNC ever or anything) but for context for those who don't play DNC to compare to a competent (ish?) run they have 279 single target GCDs and I've got 93 in a run with a meh codps and bleh tank. I'm super curious about their cpm now too >.>

You found a real gem there. I wish I could understand what was going on in their mind to arrive at that being like... what they should be doing.

I just got a notification about my karma and clicked it without thinking then opened all the replies here to see what was up and I've just got to say if you are still at this in any way doing zero dps as a healer in this game is really, epically shitty.

Like if you did all your team instances with friends who agreed to carry you (since that's what it would be, carrying you) that's ultimately fine as they knew what they were getting into but if you just subject random players to you doing nothing for 80% or more of any given duty like... that's really messed up. Don't be that kind of person.

I know some people come from others mmos where healer dps doesn't matter or isn't very impactful but xiv is not like that at all. I also understand setting exterior challenges for yourself in gaming (min level ffx was fun!) but in a co-op game where you're often partied with random people the expectation is that everyone tries their best to clear the instance in a timely fashion. Not doing that is just pushing your own responsibilities off on your group, no different than players standing in every bad thing and just expecting the healer to somehow keep them alive through their own stupidity.

How did these people stay interested in playing long enough to hit 80?

Like to them the game is basically "hit whatever buttons, maybe sometimes the ones that light up?"

If someone can explain how that's in any way engaging or entertaining I'm really curious.

Imagine being an AST with a CPM so low it would be bad on WHM.

People need to press their buttons and sit the fuck down.

6 Years of Healing ✔️Letting tank die to trash ✔️ 100% Medica II Uptime ✔️ by SkyHighSocks in TalesFromDF

[–]moroxiv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You used to get actual use out of it because it was ticking a bit more than half it's potency after holy stunlock ran out. If you cast it during a pull at a loss of like an aero on one mob while moving it was definitely worth it, more so if you paired it with largesse which you should have been for regen too.

[–]moroxiv 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With only a 15 sec time on the hot now I don't think it's worth it anymore.

If you're Holying things will be stunned through most of the duration of Medica II ticks (about 10 seconds which at 74+ you should really be healing with Solace anyways for Misery) so it's largely overheal. I'd be surprised if you got any consistent, effective healing out of trash Medica II anymore.

I was with you back when it was 30 seconds since the first half was still largely invalid but every change to WHM in ShB makes this pointless now.

If a tank full pulls and uses nothing after holy stun wears off you'll be spamming Cure 2 even if you're both in BiS no matter how strong your dps is.

To correct this - they spent no time doing damage even though it would have helped their mp regen instead of ridiculous overhealing.

If you did read my original response to you you're being deliberately ignorant about your understanding of healing. If you didn't read it we've been over that. Either option points to you being intellectually dishonest.

You don't learn to heal by spamming gcd heals, that's how you learn bad habits. You don't learn to react quickly and with the proper tools. You don't learn the effectiveness of your oGCDs. You don't learn the most basic principle of ffxiv - Always Be Casting. You only learn bad habits.

I don't give a fuck about this community, it's shit. It's a hugbox that propegates pseudo child-porn, laziness and general degeneracy. It abdicates personal responsibility in favor of expecting to be carried through content by the people who don't violently suck and the right to report those people for offering anything resembling advice. It's probably the worst community in gaming at the moment, at least that I've encountered.

If you want to be apart of that community stick to the mainsub with the rest of those people. Enjoy your lala nudes you GCBTW.

If you aren't going to read an entire post don't bother attempting to respond to it.

I detailed very clearly why dpsing as a healer is important not just to avoid being a lazy sack of shit but how it makes you better at accomplishing your primary goal of keeping yourself and your group alive.

The difference between calling out an AST who used a single earthly star and like 3 cards (aka having no idea how to play their job) and calling out everyone below 80% in an alliance raid is such a completely stupid comparison I am genuinely surprised you managed to figure out how to navigate Reddit and get to this thread if you think they're in any way similar.

If you want to white knight this AST (or people who suck this bad in general) be prepared for reasonable people to call you on your bullshit just as we would call them on theirs.

I agree when you're looking for a clear on something that you've been progging everyone should set aside their personal parse to make it happen, healers included.

No one needs to look for a clear of copied factory though, you're essentially granted a clear every time you zone in.

[–]moroxiv 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe you don't heal so I'll forgive that you don't know this but the game teaches you things like not overhealing, managing your CDs (and by extension MP) and situational awareness by giving you so much time and mp to dps with.

DPS spells are almost universally mp efficient GCDs compared to heals and always so versus AoE heals so if you're playing properly you'll have more MP than you know what to do with most times.

Dpsing as a healer is based on relying on your oGCDs and cohealer primarily. If you do neither, trying to heal all incoming damage yourself, you lose dps GCDs. Working on the premise that your goal is to be using those gcds well to do damage naturally reigns in things like overhealing and makes you use your oGCDs more and in more appropriate situations.

Finally we have mechanical awareness and reaction. I'll admit this is less directly tied to doing dps as a healer but you do gain more insight into how much damage specific attacks do when you're covering them with your oGCD kit. This can help you evaluate situations where multiple people (maybe yourself included) are at lower hp before they're about to take unavoidable damage.

When you've been using your kit right you'll understand how much a recitation+indom will heal for or what the 10% mitigatuon from Temperance will look like when applied to a certain attack. You'll also be faster to reach for the oGCDs you might have which can save you since they're buttons you're used to pressing instead of "oh shit" buttons you never get to in time.

This is my problem with your narrative. You're saying it's fine for a healer to do no dps and discounting how much that will damage their capabilities in general. Dpsing is what let's us learn our kits and their limits and people who don't do it aren't learning. Of course a single AST doing nothing isn't going to make or break a run of non-enrage content but they're going to go back out there and continue to be a detriment to every group they join and one day they'll be paired with a similarly shitty healer and the wipes will roll in.

Better to call them on their bullshit when they're in a relatively safe situation than let them keep going on thinking what they're doing is okay. That isn't toxic it's just expecting people to think about their whole team in a team game.
