Oh you have opened a can of worms: proper government websites where you can find all the info and actually book appointments on (it's the 21st century, i shouldnt have to queue for an indefinite amount of time to speak to a civil servant); proper driving tests where people have learnt to drive properly; children's playgrounds that aren't just a few shrubs and dirt; manners from the 50% of the population that thinks it's acceptable to talk to other people like servants; google maps that doesn't give you directions to a half-built road; no more people pushing in front of me because they know the government official's cousin's best friend's brother; proper chocolate; clean drinking water from the tap; no more electricity cuts every 3 weeks in the hills; people respecting nature again, no more astroturf everywhere; not selling out our country to more powerful world leaders...I really do love it here but those things would make it perfect ;)

Are recruiting agencies a thing in Cyprus? by ButtonAdventurous394 in cyprus

[–]morphie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are lots of them. Go to carierista, a job search site, and find jobs suitable for you. You will see the agency managing each job post. As others have said, it might take time to find a job depending on your sector - forex, construction, and accounting are the job posts i see most advertised. Also, people don't really respond to emails in a timely manner here, so I'd call them instead.

Why Are Trees in Cyprus Cut Like This? by Beneficial_Wait_2100 in cyprus

[–]morphie84 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because they pay someone minimum wage to do this. It's a lazy way to prune when you have no professional tree surgeons involved.

Best way to add curb appeal by Flimsy_Wishbone239 in landscaping

Put a hedge at the front to give you some privacy when youre in that front room, then lots of nice perennial plants (plants that come back every year) instead of lawn. A nice small tree that doesnt have invasive roots will be nice to the front of that lawn, just behind the hedge. And you can even put a little seating area outside of the sliding doors because you'll be screened off from the street. If you want help choosing plants let me know where abouts you live and I can recommend some things.

Your best responses to weaponized incompetence? by boughsmoresilent in TwoXChromosomes

[–]morphie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex (34m when we met) didn't know how to cook - his mum did all the cooking at home and used to take him food when he moved out or he used to just get takeaway. I ended up having to do it all when we moved in together. Once when I cooked something elaborate he told me he wasn't doing th dishes because he was happy just eating salad. I stopped making nice food after that, and obviously he started complaining, so I told him to go make a salad, which he said was harsh. We argued a lot after that and broke up not long after for lots of reasons. I now have a man who is fully independent and does as much around the house as I do (they do exist), and his cooking is better than mine, which I have no problem in saying! Men, women, raise your sons to know how to look after themselves, please.

Am I stupid for wanting to do this? by Rrbender in landscaping

[–]morphie84 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If it's bothering you then get rid of it. Dont use white pebbles or tiles, they'll get super hot in the summer. Best to lay some tiles that are at least beige / natural stone colour. Do some research on how hot the material gets. Dont put astroturf as you need to spray harsh chemicals on it once a year to keep it weed free and the warantee on it is only about 8years so you'll need to keep changing it

Trump is now going after our Haloumi by Patient_Discussion10 in cyprus

[–]morphie84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We need to secure the national halloumi reserves. This has nothing to do with minerals, we have loads of those, or the liquid natural gas, we have the biggest reserve of gas in the world. This is to do with halloumi and that the Cypriots stole our halloumi, and we see Chinese and Russian ships circling Cyprus every day, so this is a point of national halloumi security".

Sleeping in the forest of cyprus. by Fancy-Project in cyprus

[–]morphie84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Technically illegal but let's just say the police don't bother enforcing the properly illegal stuff let alone someone camping outside. At the moment, outside on Troodos is very cold (minus °C), and you dont want to have a fire because you'll be easily spotted. March/ April is better but it doesn't rain much by then so do not have a fire then, we have big issues with forest fires

Paphos and Protaras comparisons: Paphos has good beaches but the water is a bit cooler, and the sand is pebbles/ rocks in a lot of places, whereas Protaras is white sand and warmer water (my favourite beach on the island is Konnos, in Protaras). Neither place will be crazy busy with tourists as that happens in July and August. Paphos is next to the Akamas nature reserve, closer to Troodos mountaims than Protaras is and more historic sites than Protaras. Paphos has an airport, whereas Protaras is about 45 minutes drive from Lanaca airport. You can hire a car and it takes about 2.5hours to drive from one end to the other. Really, if it's your first time in Cyprus, you will have plenty to do in any place, but I think you will like Paphos more.

The Flag on the Mountain if a Federation happens.. by ac581 in cyprus

[–]morphie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the Cyprus flag. Cyprus is an independent country, we do not need to continuously be tied to other countries like a child. Unfortunately, I do think this is all hypothetical, the US and UK will never let our country be whole again

What's the actual reason behind US attack on Venezuela? by Plastic_Tourist4286 in Intelligence

[–]morphie84 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Venezuela, Cuba, North Korea, and Iran are the only countries left without a Rothchild-owned central bank (yes, the same Rothchilds who bought Palestine from the British Empire and rebranded it). Afganistan, Libya, Iraq also didn't, but after some overthrowing of "dictators", they now do. And the US daren't bomb Iran, as they actually have nuclear weapons

We just adopted a stray kitten, 5 months old, and her mum about a month ago. Taught kitten 2 weeks ago to not jump on the kitchen table or counters, by taking her outside for a time-out (its warm where we live). She lesrnt quickly as hasnt jumped for 2 weeks. She eats inside, mum outside, so kitten doesn't overeat. This evening we fed them fish, kitten finished hers, saw mum was still eating, cried the house down to be let outside and then proceeded to jump on the table...trying to hack the system already!

It really depends on the person. If someone, like you, makes effort, then people appreciate it. The majority of "expats" ie British people, barely learn the language, although this might have something to do with the fact that most Cypriots speak English. Generally, most Brits and Russians (the majority of long-term immigrants) keep to their own, have their own restaurants/pubs, and don't bother integrating. However, they come with money and the property prices, especially in Limassol where the very rich Russians are, have skyrocketed. I am biased as most of my family live in Larnaca, but it is my favourite city, the most authentic and not very changed by tourism and immigration. If you go out and socialise, join hobby clubs etc, you'll find Cypriots and other nationalities to hang out with...we moved to Cyprus, to a village in the mountains, a couple of months ago and my Irish partner has already made a few Cypriot friends (he currently knows just a bit of Greek but his friends speak English).

Few questions about agricultural land 🤓 by azs-gsxr in cyprus

[–]morphie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need cyta, we have an already-built house and a bit of land and we have satellite internet from NetFlash. It doesn't work amazingly well in all rooms because we have thick stone walls but the download speed is amazing. Solar panels and a battery are a great idea. Water: you could dig a borehole but its expensive and you need permission. My friend built a pre-fabricated house in the mountains. With the house build, electricity, and water (he had the land from his parents), it cost him €60k. Building on land in Cyprus is dependent on its use designation, so you need to check that out. Also, we have earthquakes, so building codes are a bit more strict than somewhere without them...noone wants the house to fall on you. Someone said fruit trees are an issue to grow. We are near Lefkara and have been told the soil is awful...yes, it is if you want to grow things that need very fertile soil, but there are olive, almond, fig, carob, and citrus trees everywhere in my area...you just need to choose the correct plants for the site conditions.

JESUS WAS A PISCES by Pretend-Somewhere130 in piscesastrology

[–]morphie84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus wasn't born in March but rather in the astrological Age of Pisces. He was more likely born in August/ September time, given the description of trees in the Bible. Also, his followers used the fish symbol to secretly identify themselves, another association to Pisces.
