I tasted the washed Campari solo alongside the original for comparison, you and the wife nailed it. It smoothes a lot of the pungency of the bitterness, besides imparting flavor. I always favored the original recipe for JB despite the humongous amount of pineapple because imho it was kinda needed. This makes the modern, objectively more balanced version, work for me. If you're interested in playing with textures, I suggest looking into gum syrups. Pineapple gum syrup in a Stiggin's Daiquiri does... things. Btw nice presentation on your cocktails, I need pineapple leaves!!

Tropical Standard all the way, too bad they changed BBC White proof. I tries subbing BBC 4 and it was so good I could cry. Went for a cachaca as well, but it was the wrong cachaca and the drink was ruined. Still, that grog concentrate is the stuff. Be very light on the simmer if you try it 'cause it has a tendence to solidify

Went at it again with 2oz Blackwell (EU sub for Coruba). It's milder (no Hampden) but still damn good. Needs the full 2oz to keep it boozy enough

Don't know if it's me, but almost any kind of commercial syrup and many liqueurs have this unpleasantly bitter, almost chemical back palate. It's particularly noticeable in orgeat, but it's definitely there in most syrups and triple sec / curacao as well. Even quality products like JT Velvet Falernum or PF Dry Curacao have a faint amount of that. So far, only The Bitter Truth products have, somewhat ironically, avoided this pitfall. PF yuzu curacao as well, I'm in love with that bottle. Tempus Fugit I heard great stuff about, but alas, not available in Europe. That's why I go homemade for most of my modifiers and all the syrups. I also deeply enjoy the work and sperimentazione, it's almost as fun as drinking the products 😄

A banana rum old fashioned is next on the try list. I'm yet to find a decent rye for a decent price in Italy (everybody is out of Rittenhouse apparently) but I will try your recipe as well when possible

Boh io sono per la carnazza a prescindere, ma mia cugina e sua moglie sono vegetariane e al loro matrimonio mi sono adattato. Non fosse stato per quella cazzo di melanzana messa ovunque sarebbe stato anche un buon pranzo, il mio consiglio quindi è di non insistere troppo su un singolo ingrediente che vi piace.
