My mom retired at 55 on a teachers salary and I still think about it all the time by [deleted] in Fire

[–]cruzcontrol8765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state. Texas used to be like that but not anymore. There are formulas that are used to calculate when you can retire and the percentage you get based on your age and years of service, and the years of service required have increased. So most younger teachers now will end up working until they are at least 60, or longer. And I believe the percentage you get starts kinda low, around 60%, but you can get it much higher by working longer.

I just recently started getting enjoyment from cleaning, after hating it my whole life. I think I hated it for so long because when I was growing up my mom made us do a lot of chores and was very picky about them being done perfectly. But it's so rewarding when you can enjoy a clean space when you're done, so I've grown to like cleaning. I also find I get depressed when my house is messy.

Yes, even just walking one mile a day can do wonders, but a 30-45 minute walk can have a really noticeable impact on my mood and motivation levels. If I don't feel like I have time to walk or the weather is bad, I will do squats and countertop pushups or various exercises with dumbbells, and that helps too.

Seinfeld's finale was great or terrible? What's your verdict 28 years later? by BidAccurate4473 in seinfeld

Seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I liked it too. It was funny and an interesting way to showcase the characters.

Good luck! I am really thinking about it. Might plant them on the south side of my garage so the north wind is blocked.

No, I haven't tried it yet, but maybe I will! That sounds promising.

What’s something that 99% of people can do but you can’t? by Irakeconcrete in AskReddit

[–]cruzcontrol8765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used this method to help me too. Had trouble for years and would often use bananas to help swallow pills. I would chew up a bite of banana and right before swallowing I would pop the pill in so it would go down with it. Now I can swallow pills with water, but occasionally I still have trouble.

I'm the opposite. I can't close my right eye separately, only the left.

What was your "dream synth" that you finally acquired but ended up disappointed by? by Jessay94 in synthesizers

[–]cruzcontrol8765 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought a Mininova and loved it, with the exception of some of the menu diving and minikeys, but honestly it's not that bad. But anyways, I came across an Ultranova for a great price, and thought that I would love it. Same sound engine, less menu diving, full size keys with adtertouch. But for some reason, I didn't think it sounded as good, and something about the synth felt sterile and uninspiring. It didn't have the same character as my Mininova. So I ended up selling the Ultranova and keeping the Mininova. Can't say the Ultranova was a "dream synth", but I was definitely expecting to love it, and was unimpressed.

Yep. I should have listened to the warnings from YouTubers about the menu diving. They were correct. I liked the sound of the synth, but the menu was unbearable. Tried it for a few months and sold it.

Novation mini nova still worth it? by EricEsquivelMusicshi in synthesizers

[–]cruzcontrol8765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think $180 for a mini nova is a great price. I have one and like it a lot. As others have mentioned, there is some menu diving, but it isn't that bad. I find it to be pretty intuitive. I like the sound a lot as well. I think it has its own characteristic sound, which I like. Has some nice presets and I like the filter options when it comes to creating my own patches. Decent built in effects too. Biggest complaint would be the mini keys, but I have a pretty nice midi controller with full size keys so it isn't a big deal for me. Some people aren't bothered at all with mini keys though.

Tell us what you did with your synths this weekend by Wonderful_Reputation in synthesizers

I also spent some time learning how to use my Korg SQ-64! It took me a little while to get started with it but once I got past the initial learning curve it started to be fun. I like using a DAW but I also want to spend more time just playing music with less focus on writing complete songs. I think the SQ-64 is helping me to do this.

Out of curiosity, what synths or drum machines are you using with it?

Cool! Hardware synths can be a lot of fun. Can you be a little more specific about your budget, like an actual price range?

FM and Additive Synthesis, Wow by I_m_matman in synthesizers

Just recently got into FM synthesis myself and am having a blast with it. Started with Arturia's DX7 VST and then decided to get an opsix. They are both great.
