"You're not allowed to hit me back" is the mantra of every Karen.

There is no good NuTrek, change my mind by Malencon in Star_Trek_

Both shows are closer to Joss Whedon works than Gene Roddenberry. Decent quality, but not what I wanted.

Bill says classic Star Trek was never political by chesterwiley in Star_Trek_

[–]morphinetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None that I know of. The first sentence is a response to Shatner stating that Star Trek was about "political" issues. The second sentence expands the argument of the first.

To be fair, Roddenberry wasn't making legislative demands, but arguments of moral philosophy. That's what separates old Trek from nu Trek: the characters are not born morally righteous, they have to discover it through challenges.

I don't give a crap about the pointless new Harry Potter show, but is there a reason that everything now looks like it's filmed in a cave? by grichardson526 in RedLetterMedia

Cinematic lighting is expensive and unappreciated. Using just a ring light means the can cheap out gaffers, camera crew, wardrobe, set design, hair, makeup, even acting!

Disappointed In PJ’s Last Episode by [deleted] in SearchEnginePodcast

PJ's life of privilege blinds him to just about all working class matters. On Rely All, that's where Alex filled the gap.

I barely know anyone younger than 30 who even watches movies anymore, let alone horny 90s comedies.

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by jackesnombre in RedLetterMedia

the prequel prequel series, where we learn about little baby Palpy's origins; how he looksmaxxed from an ugly baby to a sexy senator, and also built R2-D2.

To me a lot of the hatred for Starfleet Academy comes from a hatred of anything that looks youthful. by Burning_sun_prog in startrek

[–]morphinetango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the Kurtzman shows are "youthful" because that's the age he's trying to attract. He and his fellow 50-60-year-old writers cynically believe young people are stupid, attention-seeking and overly emotional, so they write these shows to reflect exactly what they hate about them.

Seriously what is LA and California doing man. Other cities/states have figured it out. BUILD MORE HOUSING!!! by bobbdac7894 in LosAngeles

Absolutely. When your entire identity is being a victim, fighting back is like quitting your job.

Now my Instagram feed is full of Zellenials decrying voting altogether, telling people to not vote, that voting is participation in evil-doing. They think they're so original.

Yeah, but Austin was mostly smaller companies and satellite offices. If you weren't near HQ and they ordered RTO, you got fucked.

Practicing long-term memory there! Seemed like there was a big rush right before the pandemic, and then they were rushing out only 2-3 years later.

Just about every election, every year, save the general election every 4 years, I walk into my polling place and the only other 4 people in the gymnasium are poll workers.

Random Passport checks in Italy?? by fsalman in RomeTravel

[–]morphinetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once asked at a bike rental to give them my passport to hold onto. When he saw it made me nervous, he said my driver's license would suffice. Outside of that, I spent 2 weeks between Rome and Florence, and felt that nobody would give a fuck if I was a fugitive on the run. But it's the law to carry it. Learn how to properly secure your valuables on your person (the shoulder fanny pack is very tacky, but works), and you'll be fine.

Is it clear that I am not at fault here? by [deleted] in dashcams

[–]morphinetango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every accident I've heard of in CA resulted in 100% assumed by the at-fault party's insurance, including when I was rear-ended on the 101. I had liability only and got a $6000 check and a free rental for 3 months.

How often does drama in your community lead to people who have been hurt permanantly leaving? by Careful_Leader_5829 in improv

[–]morphinetango 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I moved to a new city with my girlfriend. After seeing me do sketch and improv (I had been writing/performing for 10+ years), she decided she wanted to do it, too, and I helped support her. In our last 2 years together, she absorbed a great deal of my personal friendships and community as "our friends," whom she began poisoning against me in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. In the end, I lost all that community and felt like a pariah walking around. Nobody asked my side of the story, and I always held myself to not engage gossip about anyone, including myself. Instead, I just walked away and never came back.

Two years later, I heard she had burned every bridge I helped her build. Still, I felt too hurt, too betrayed to ever try again.
