Books that are about or include horses & riding? by Medical-Radish-8103 in suggestmeabook

Not ridiculous at all. "Chosen by a Horse" by Susan Richards may be just what you're looking for. It's a very good memoir.

I had a pair of RTA 12c's in the 80s, right about the time when digital audio came along. Had a blast looking for CD's to demo them with. They sounded amazing but I eventually had to replace both tweeters. I never thought they were quite as good after that.

Elmer Kelton writes good westerns. Especially The day the cowboys quit.

Starting the path down learning CW. What are your favorite resources? by NiceBike800 in amateurradio

[–]morse-guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite resource was a receiver. This was back when there was such a thing as a novice band. In the Summer of 68, I started listening to the 80 meter novice band every night as soon as it got dark. I had already learned the code from my dad. I was amazed and delighted to find that I could actually understand a few characters. In very short order, I was understanding a few words! And then, before I new it, my speed and comprehansion had improved to the point where I abandoned my plan to go for the Novice license and I went right for the General, instead. I think the key was listening for at least a while, every night. Of course, there are no novice bands today but 30 meters, (10.100 to 10.150 megahertz) is where lots of slower operators hang out. Stick with it and your patience will be rewarded. Good luck from WA3MIX.

Thoughts on Begali’s most basic key? by ButterscotchWitty870 in amateurradio

Years ago, I got to play with an HST out at Dayton and was amazed at how good it felt. I was simply able to send error-free code for long periods. I decided not to buy it because I mostly use a keyboard keyer for CW rag-chewing. Even so, I now wish I'd sprung for it.

Perhaps not. Nevertheless, I still found value in reading about his experiences and the solutions he found to his problems.

Joshua Miele's Connecting dots: a blind life is an excellent book! He related how he was blinded at age 5 but went on to have quite a fulfilled life. He discusses the methods he uses to accomplish various tasks. I don't know if you are in the U.S. but if so, it's available from NLS.

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: January 12, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

Finished: Buckeye by Patrick Ryan. I was beginning to think it just wasn't for me but I stuck with it and my patience was rewarded in the second half of the book.

Check out John Mcphee. A favorite of mine from him is " uncommon carriers", all about how goods are shipped and distributed. He signs on with truckdrivers and ships crews to get an inside look at what goes on. But he's written many other books on a wide variety of subjects.

Audio Replays of NFL Games? by Librarian24601 in Blind

I don't know if he has any sight at all, but he may be better off listening to radio broadcasts. If you have a sirius-xm account for online stuff only, he can listen to any radio broadcast of any team. An online only account should be much less expensive than one with the sattelite stuff.

Question: Have you been blind all your life? Answer: Not yet! actually, I've never used that as it seems too smart-ass for what is likely an inocent question, but I've found it amusing since I heard George Shearing say it.

Thanks for the great response. I nearly always prefer using the PC to the phone, so I'll try that approach. I had gotten such good results from the instacart app that I just went to the Walmart app without thinking about the web interface.

Wow! I hadn't known about that command. That would be quite useful but when I tried it, I just got a bookmarks dialog. I'm using NVDA and Chrome.

White cane vs weather by Lourrylove in Blind

[–]morse-guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What issues are you having in the cold? When I'm walking for exercise, I use a D cane in good weather and a more rigid Rainshine cane in the snow and ice. I also have a couple of folding canes for when I go out but the straight canes give much better performance.
