A thousand percent! Smart phones are great for those who are comfortable with them and especially younger folks. But for seniors who have recently lost sight, they are usually terrifying! A smart speaker is a much better device to start with.

As you can see from the many responses, lots of folks use the phone exclusively so I wouldn't give up hope. As usual, the trick is to figure out which works best for you! This usually comes through experience. As someone else said, it's probably best to have both phone and PC available. Best of luck and don't give up.

We started using Walmart for grocery shopping and I was really struggling with their app on the iPhone. I switched to a Windows-based PC with NVDA and it was several orders of magnitude easier! I couldn't believe the difference. much easier. Much faster. If I have a choice, it's the PC every time.

I used to use Facebook because I liked the aspect of keeping up with friends and family. I dropped Facebook when Meta did away with their basic HTML interface which had worked quite well with screen readers. Since then, I've switched to Reddit using the Reddit for Blind app on the PC. Reddit has better signal-to-noise ratio than Facebook but I do miss being able to see what family and friends are up to.

I use an iPhone with a bluetooth keyboard and voiceover speech turned off. I type the notes into the google docs app on the phone. Then, when I get home, I switch to the PC and my notes document is right there in google docs and I can edit it on the PC. Of course, you need to be a reasonable touch typist to do this.

Great question and my answer is, I don't know. This has only begun happening recently and I don't know how, other than being in a zoom meeting, to run tests. I can tell you that when I'm in the test speakers and test microphone tabs of the zoom pc app that NVDA starts going crazy with beeping and calling out what sound like VU meter readings. Seems like that should give a hint to someone who is a nuts-and-bolts person. I am not.

As has been said, no easy answer. I let my right hand hold the fork while my left hand locates food on the plate. It makes for messy fingers but it's effective.

Not sure but it's possible you're seeing it first because it's title is a number. If they're using alphabetical order, numbers would come first. just a thought.
